Epilogue

Three years later

Maureen

"Is that not the hottest thing you've ever seen?" Cara mumbled, her chin propped in her hand, staring out the window down at the pool party, her face set with a dreamy expression. I sighed.

"Tell me about it..."

We gazed at my husband, who was standing next to the pool in the backyard, holding our small baby daughter against his chest. Our family and friends filled the backyard, talking, laughing, eating, but his tall body stood out like a beacon that drew- no, demanded- attention. Sunlight glinted off his hair. He kept it just a little shorter these days but other than that, he looked the same as he had that summer when we first met. Cara and I both sighed.

"He's so good with her," she went on, as Ryan lifted up her tiny, three-week old body and kissed her cheek, his enamored expression soft with adoration.

"I know." I felt my chest swell with pride.

"Like... I mean, he's gorgeous. Really gorgeous. But then add her to the mix - and his attractiveness factor just flew off the chart."

"Right?"

"It's like an unspoken rule. Guys with babies shouldn't be seen in public - they can cause car accidents," she said sagely. "Scratch that - guys shouldn't be seen with babies, period. Because they aren't safe- not even in their family's backyard," her eyebrows went up as she jutted her chin forward. I leaned closer to the window- and burst into laughter.

"Cara, your friends do know he's married, right?"

She nodded.

"Oh yeah ... but Jessica is a moron," she grimaced, as one of the girls laid a hand on Ryan's arm. I bent forward slightly.

"Oh gosh... she's gorgeous," I said, surprised. Cara nodded, glumly.

"You know she's dated a lot of actors? Like Chris Hemsworth for instance?

"Chris Hemsworth?" I asked in disbelief.

"Well, that was years ago, before he got married, but yeah..." she laughed at my face. "Oh, come on. You can't still have a crush on him. Ryan is just as hot - if not hotter."

"True," I conceded, in no way going to argue about Ryan's looks. "But still... Chris Hemsworth," I shook my head.

"Yeah," she nodded with a sigh. "I think it's her chest. She's like a D cup."

"You're right," I said after another look-over. I shook my head. "What's the use when there are girls like that out there?"

"Hey!" Cara slapped my arm and I laughed at the indignant expression on her face. "Did you forget who you're married to?" She grabbed my chin and forced me to look back out the window. Ryan was standing there, surrounded by four of five bikini-clad, gorgeous girls, looking like an Abercrombie model. I laughed again. An Abercrombie model modeling babies, apparently.

"Okay, you're totally right."

"Ryan's head over heels in love with you and always will be. You've got nothing to worry about."

I smiled, knowing she was right, my mind already sinking back into the memories of the past three years.... Ryan and I had gotten married in July of 2012, a few months after I'd turned nineteen. The wedding had been small and I'd gotten through it without tripping or anything. We spent our honeymoon traveling Europe and then we came back to California a month later and bought a gorgeous two-story house near my family's estate. We'd been living there ever since.
