Honey sat in the first row pew during Zeke’s funeral.  Her hair was done neatly into a bun while her outfit was simply black. She held the balled up tissue in her hands and continued to cry and cry and cry. Those who were there were both family and friends and if they didn’t know about Honey, well they did now.

She watched the pastor give the eulogy ending with a small word from the bible to uplift everyone’s sprits. He encouraged to not be weighed down by mourning but by celebrating life. He’s where he doesn’t have to feel pain or suffering. He’s happy and waiting for his loved ones to join him in paradise.

But of course, Honey cried harder. Mostly she was blaming herself for all that had happened. It turned out that Teddy Shot Big Poppa before he could pull the trigger on Honey. The pain she endured was just enough to for her to black out. It seemed that Tyrone was listening in on the call and went to the police which led to them finding them on the ground fighting for their life.

Zeke and Honey were immediately taken to the hospital but Zeke was pronounced dead before he got there and it shattered Honey’s heart into a million pieces. It was then but too late that she realized that she did love him. He risked even his life to protect Honey and in return she shut him out. She cried and cried that entire time she was in the hospital and even swore she saw him in her dreams. She remembered clear as if a memory of him standing beside her hospital bed stroking her cheek radiating beauty. He smiled his heart warming mega-watt smile telling her that he will forever love her. His words were “Ssh, don't cry. I'll always be wtih you, I'm everywhere you are. I’ll be waiting for you on the other side.” The kiss to her forehead felt real and he walked away and out her hospital room.

Of course she balled her eyes out even more when she awoke and the nurses even had to keep her on suicide watch when she threatened to starve herself to death only so she could be with Zeke and her Mama.

When she was asked about the events by the police a few days later, Honey spilled everything from the start of finding out from Zeke what was going on and up to that night. When she mentioned Teddy, the officers told her that he was longer in the state. The last trail they had was a plane ticket to Mexico that he bought that morning. Honey hated the fact that he was still out there alive but somewhere deep down she couldn’t help but thank him for saving her life.

Tyrone rubbed her back soothingly and she laid her head on his shoulder. They watched now as his casket lowered into the ground being buried next to his mother and Honey was so close to jumping in there with him screaming “Don’t go!”

After the service, Tyrone held Honey’s hand as they made way back to his car walking down the rows of the graves. The sun was shining down brightly with big fluffy clouds filling the sky. Honey was actually expecting it to be gloom and raining like the day of her Mother’s funeral but somehow she felt that this was the works of a higher power.

Making it to Tyrone’s car, Tyrone turned to Honey and took her in for a warm hug and she was ready to break down all over again. Tyrone sensed this and soon shushed her, stroked her hair telling her that it was all okay and she would be fine from now on. After a few minutes, her tears were now dried and she even chuckled when she pulled away to see a huge wet stain in the center of Tyrone’s white button up.

He smiled. “It’s worth it.” He said. Honey nodded her head. He placed a finger beneath her chin so that he was staring into her eyes and something stirred within Honey. She was grateful for having one real friend through all of this. He was there for her since the beginning and she loved him for it.

“You gonna be okay? You’re more than welcome to come live with me in California.” He said. While everything was going down, he had received an offer to manage casinos corporately in California and he wasn’t going to say no. Honey nodded her head. She believed she was going to be fine after a while. No offense to Tyrone, but she wanted a clean slate from everything and everybody. A good way to start was to sell the club and take the money and move somewhere else. She was thinking somewhere along the lines of Atlanta but she wasn’t too sure yet.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. I’ll be out there more than you think.” She said laughing a bit.

“You better be.” He said playfully. He was leaving in the morning and he just wanted to be sure if he needed to stay an extra few days to just keep an eye on her.

“C’mon, let’s go get some food. Death makes me hungry.” Honey shook her head and hesitated before getting in the car. She looked back at the tent that was now sheltering Zeke’s casket.

“At least let me know you’re at peace.” She whispered. It only a few seconds shortly after that she felt a light breeze caress her face. It almost felt like a kiss.

She understood and immediately knew it was Zeke. For the first time in a few weeks she genuinely smiled.

She was gonna be ok.
