Chapter Thirty Five

Silver Lights District - Ward Residence

Kevin gazed at the amulet a small smile hovered over his lips.   The reason why the clasp wouldn't work glaring clear.

"Xara come here," beckoned Kevin with a pleased smile.   He pointed toward the light blue examine table that he'd stood in front of. "Have a seat.  I just want to run a few test to make adjustments to the amulet."

Xara frowned, perplexed by his request.  "You didn't need to examine me when you initially created it."

"Oh but I did examine you before hand," responded Kevin. After Xara was situated on the table he produced two medical stones from a pouch in his pocket.   "I just need to get a few up-to-date readings."

"Okay," responded Xara confused.  She laid back on the table and closed her eyes as one stone was placed on her forehead and the other on her abdomen.  "Do you need more blood as well?  Will this take long," she inquired softly.

Kevin raised his hand calling forth his hand held.  "I don't need a new sample and it shouldn't  really take long," smiled Kevin as he read the results of the scan.  "As a matter of fact I'm almost done."

Kevin stared down at the screen with delight before he flicked his wrist and the device vanished.  He removed the two stones and place them gently back into the pouch.   "Xara," sighed Kevin thoughtfully.   "How have you been feeling recently?"

"Um," responded Xara as she pulled her shirt down and sat up.  "I've been fine."

"No headaches, dizziness, nausea,  cramping or anything," asked Kevin offhandedly.   He picked the amulet up off his workstation and stared at the dull yellow  stone with shimmering silver lines.

Xara pondered his question as she jumped from the table. "I've been a little nauseous but it passes after I drink a cup of tea."

"Really," sighed Kevin.  He turned the amulet in his hand the stone winked at him under the bright lights above the table.

"Am I sick," asked Xara.

"No you're perfectly healthy," responded Kevin never looking up. "How often do you and Kaelen have sex?"

"W-what," stuttered Xara her brown eyes circles of surprise.

"Don't be shy," responded Kevin.  He looked up from the stone his hazel gaze intense as he waited impatiently for her response.    "Tell me now," whispered Kevin his eyes narrowing on her face.

"At least once a day," Xara responded hesitantly.

"Once a day," repeated Kevin thoughtfully.  "Are you telling me the truth?"

Xara nodded anxious to end his questions into her sex life with Kaelen.

"Does he still like to drink from you," asked Kevin with a look of curiosity.

Xara shifted uncomfortably as she stared wide eyed at Kevin.   She opened her mouth to respond but nothing can out as she thought of what he'd started to do more often instead.  Her face turned a bright red as she tried to squeak out an answer

"Uh huh," nodded Kevin with a knowing smile.  "Have you had sex with anyone aside from Kae since arriving on Ah'Taria," he asked his tone disinterested.  At her continued silence he smirked at Xara before he started to fiddle with the amulet.   "Never mind," mumbled Kevin.  "You'd be dead if you had."

A shiver ran up Xara's spine at his words.  "If I die will you keep your word and keep my cousin safe?"

Kevin fingers stopped and he looked up at Xara's worried face.  His expression was one of curiosity, "Why are you adamant in your belief that he's going to kill you?"
