Chapter Six

It didn’t take long before they discovered that they were not alone. Although no one came out to see them, the scents of other people nearby drifted to them.

“Why isn’t anyone coming out to see us?” Sam asked.

She shrugged her shoulders “Maybe they’re not sure if we are friendly?”

He squints his eyes up at the building in front of them “Yeah maybe.” He mumbled “Or maybe they’re the ones who aren’t friendly?”

She looked at him “You think they could be dangerous? Surely if those who are still here are kids who didn’t get picked up by their parents?”

“For our sake I hope so.” He said before he started walking away from the administration building. “Let’s go check out the cafeteria and see what our food supply is like. We may need to go into town and purchase food if there isn’t anything left.”

They made their way towards the cafeteria “Is it me, or is it a little creepy out here?”

“Nope definitely not you” He said shivering “It’s weird not seeing people roaming around. I don’t think I have ever seen this place so empty. Even at night if we snuck out when it’s late and everyone is asleep you would still see all the Custodians walking around.” A wolfs howl echoes through the school grounds. “I’m not sure coming here was such a good idea.”

“We didn’t really have a choice Sam. Where else are we safe from hunters and vampires?” He grunted before grabbing the door handle to the cafeteria. Walking inside they looked around the bare room. “I thought for sure there would be a few people hiding out here.” She mumbled. They walked through the cafeteria and made their way towards the kitchen.

“Let’s check the food supply, grab a snack and then we can search the buildings and find out exactly whose hiding out here. If there friends we can come up with a plan to make this place safer.”

“And if they’re not friends?”

“Well we will cross that bridge when we get to it.”

“Oh Sam,” She said suddenly sad that her friend has lost his joking personality and become so serious.

“What?” He asked frowning

“Nothing.” She said shaking her head. “Let’s check out the kitchen.”

After checking out the kitchen and finding they had enough supplies to last them a couple of months they quickly made some sandwiches and made their way to the closest table. They had only just sat down when the cafeteria doors opened. Standing and taking a defenses pose they waited for the intruder to attack.
