Alek and I where playing around at the park by my house. I had taken his phone so he started chasing me. I started sprinting, faster and faster, and then I turned around to see him laughing as I ran.

“Madykel! Stop, duck!” he shouted.

But everyone’s natural reflex is to turn around to see what the person’s talking about. Right as I turned around I ran right into the tree branch, a mighty low branch if I do say so myself. BOOM!!!

Things started getting black. I couldn’t hear or see much, and I knew I hit it pretty hard.

I landed on my back, head smacking the hard ground beneath me.

Alek ran up to me as fast as he could to me and called 911. Or at least that’s what I think he did. He pulled out something blue and shiny, and he was talking frantically into it, as though I was hit by a car or something. Though the impact my head had with the tree was pretty hard.

I heard sobbing, and I felt something sticky and warm run down the side of my face, through my hair, landing on the grass. I felt like I was in pain, I wanted to cry. But I couldn’t. It restrained me. I released my hand and put it back on my head, and it was warmer, and now dripping down my face.

And that was it. I couldn’t feel the warmness any more. I couldn’t feel the pain. I couldn’t see even a blurry image, or hear the loudest scream. I was out. Out of presence. For a while anyway.

CHAPTER 1: Coming home to Starbucks : Day 1

I looked at the picture on my desk and smiled. “Good to be home huh JoJo?” I asked my eleven year old welsh corgi.

She barked in agreement and walked upstairs ahead of me.

I sat down on my light blue, moon chair and picked up my old neon green phone my old best friend gave to me, since my cell didn’t have any minutes. I pressed speed dial number one and before the first ring he picked up.

“Hey! How was San Diego? Was I sandy?” for some reason his cheesy humor he had whenever he wanted, always made me laugh.

“It was good. Pretty boring actually. How’s the past two weeks been?” I started messing with the ancient phone chord that has been bitten by JoJo at least a-thousand times.

“Amazing! Well other than the fact that my Madykel was gone!” he practically joke-yelled into the phone.

“Ha, how was it amazing?”
