Lizzie Borden's Revenge

Thunk. Thunk. Thunk. The children's skipping rope hit the ground in rhythm with their feet slapping the blacktop. Then ten children were gathered on the playground. They chanted:

"Lizzie Borden had an axe,
Gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty one."

Over and over they repeated this rhyme. No one noticed the smoke that was quickly solidifying. They didn't see the ghostly form until it tapped them on the shoulder.

She wore a simple gray dress, and had a short, curly halo of brown hair around her head. Her only outstanding feature was her blood red eyes. She walked righ up to the children and said, in a bone-chilling monotone voice, "Say it again. The rhyme.

They restarted.
"Lizzie Borden had an axe
Gave her mother forty whacks,
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one."

Her eyes flashed and narrowed. The woman grinned maliciously. "I have a new rhyme for you, children:
Lizzie Borden went to class,
Gave the children forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done,
She gave their teacher forty one."

Lizzie pulled a bloodstained hatchet out of her pocket, and started living her newest rhyme...
