THANKS FOR READING!
Chapter One - It's A Love/Hate Relationship
Taylor's P.O.V.
"Bye, Mom!" I said in a rush, giving my mother a kiss on the cheek as I ran through the kitchen.
I was late... Very late... Again...
"Aren't you going to eat something?" My mother asked in her very motherly concern voice. "You really should."
"Can't." I replied in a huff, turning around in circles and checking my backpack to make sure I had everything. I grabbed my school ID off the counter and stuffed my house keys in my pocket. "I'm late. I'll eat at school."
I threw the front door open and ran down the porch steps towards the garage.
"Have a good day!" My mother waved from the porch as I threw my backpack into the basket on the handle bars of my bike.
"I'll try." I waved back, swinging my leg over my bike, pushing off down the driveway and pedaling hard down the street.
I pulled my cell phone from the front pocket of my backpack and, keeping an eye on traffic and a tight hold on my handle bars with my left hand, I texted my best friend Abigail.
'Running late! Can you get my copy of Romeo & Juliet out of my locker for me?! Thanks doll ;)'
I swerved around people walking through the market. It was always packed on Wednesday mornings for some reason.
I got a text back from Abigail as I finally escaped the crowds of the market.
'Alrighty :)'
'You're the bestest friend in the whole world!!! :D' I wrote back.
I swerved around a corner putting my phone back in my bag and zipping it up. It was another ten minutes of speeding through crosswalks, praying I wouldn't get hit by a car and dodging around groups of people walking to work or school or waiting at bus stops.
As I raced up to the school parking lot, I squeezed on the brakes on my handle bars. My tires whining against the sidewalk, I stopped neatly in front of the bike rack. Abigail was standing a few feet away, holding my English reading book and eating a hot fudge sundae pop tart. She looked mildly impressed.
"I think that's a new record." She took a bite out of her pop tart and brushed crumbs from her shirt as I jumped off my bike. "And the bell hasn't even rung yet."
Just then, Justin, Stephen, Olliver and Toby came out of nowhere with a measuring tape. They layed it across the ground and measured the black skid mark that trailed behind the back tire of my bike as I locked my bike up.
"Dude!" Justin yelled. "6'5"! That's a whole foot and a half over your record!"
"No effin' way!" Olliver yelled.
"Crazy!" Toby yelled.
"Inspirational." Stephen said in a stoner voice, nodding his head with his eyes half closed.
"You all sound seriously stoned." I laughed.
"Well, with the smell coming off Ollie, we all could be." Stephen laughed, holding his nose and backing away from Olliver.
Olliver frowned as the rest of us laughed while he smelled his t-shirt.
"I haven't smoked in a long time." He mumbled.
"Yeah, right." Toby said, punching Olliver in the arm.
"Anyways..." Justin pointed at the skid mark on the ground. "Amazing." He high fived me.
"Agreed." I said.
I walked over to Abigail. She handed me my copy of 'Romeo and Juliet' for English. It was all about Shakespeare this semester.
"Thank you, best friend!" I said, hugging her.
"Mmm hmm." She mumbled back. "Pop tart?" She held out the second hot fudge sundae pop tart still rapped in the silver package.
"Absolutely." I took the pop tart from the wrappings and took a big bite. "How long until the bell rings?" I asked her.
"A few minutes." she said, taking the last bite of her pop tart. "That math test isn't today, right?"
"It's next Wednesday."
We listened to the boys talk animatedly about some football or baseball game that was on last night.
"Deff. the event of the year." Toby exclaimed. "I couldn't even believe it when---"
The rest of his sentence was drowned out by a roaring V-8 engine from a black, '68 Ford Mustang with a white racing stripe along the hood and a black leather interior.
Thayer Darcy.
Any boy within a 100 foot radius was looking on in envy while the underclassman girls were giggling uncontrollably. Abigail and I glanced at each other and rolled our eyes.
