Feeling

"57... fifty... wait, 56? Okay, start over. 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6... six? Okay, start over. 1... 2... 3..."

I stare at my self in the mirrored ceiling. I try to count my eyelashes. I've been at it for hours. I'm not really trying to count my eyelashes, I'm just trying to distract my self from the real problems I face. Where am I? What have these people done to me? Where is Aurora?

Aisin and the younger lady — Pathara I think? They left hours ago and haven't been back. I've been left alone — to my thoughts. My thoughts scare me — well, not the thoughts but the control I have lost over what's private and what can be expressed. Apparently my thoughts are free game to who ever is out hunting. That's also a part of my reasoning behind trying to count my eye lashes. If — they — can hear my thoughts — if my thoughts are no longer private, then I'm not going to give them anything to hear.

I don't see any cameras. No sign of being watched — or heard. Just in case I stay to the counting. Wait — they may be able to hear my thoughts — but they can't hear my feelings, my — exposition. Maybe if I feel my exposition rather than think it, I'll be protected. I count.

"25... 26..."

"Lost it again," I feel. "Start over."

"1... 2... 3... 4..."

The single door into this cell opens politely.

"Hello Raddon, how are you feeling?"

"I don't answer." I feel.

"Raddon. I want you to understand that I can empathize with how you may be ... feeling... right now. You have every right to be defensive."

Aisin walks up to my side and gently takes my shackled hand into hers. It's warm. I look into her eyes.

"1... 2... 3... 4..."

She just smiles softly then looks down at the hand she is holding. She takes the shackle and undoes the strap freeing my right hand. In resistance I don't even try to move it.

Aisin looks at me again and nods her head.

"I'm glad we found you Raddon. You are brilliant, you're perfect. I'm excited to show you everything." She thinks.

"12... 13... 14... 15..."

She takes my hand in hers again. "Raddon your resilient and defensive nature is exactly what we need, what this new world needs."

"What is she talking about? New world." I feel tensely.

She lets go and moves down the the base of the bed and unshackles my feet, then politely moves around to the other side of the bed and unshackles my other hand. The only thing she leaves shackled is my head. I follow her with my eyes the entire time.

"Raddon, let's show you the facility shall we?"

Upon that thought Pathara enters the room with a wheel chair. She brings it right to the side of my bed and applies the breaks. With no other instruction, Pathara looks to the machine that's stopped beeping since I started counting and thinks "Disengage."

A loud hiss is made and locks unclasping break the silence. There is a release of pressure on my head and neck and suddenly the feeling is back into my entire body. My body feels light.

"Am I free?"

I move just my eyes to Pathara. She is stone focused on me. I can't read any emotion from her. She looks over to Aisin and then both move and place both of their hands under my shoulders. With a nod from Aisin, they lift me to a slouching position.

"Now Raddon, it will take a day for you to regain full mobility, we have mildly paralyzed your central nervous system. Pathara and I are going to take you around the facility where you have been staying, does that sound okay?"

"I'm so scared."

Pathara takes my legs with Aisin supporting my back and swings my legs over the side of the bed. My wrists are damp with the perspiration around where the shackles secured them moments ago. Both ladies then support me into the wheelchair and Pathara buckles me in. She slides up a head support board from the back of the chair and straps my head lightly into place.

Again, I'm stuck.

Pathara unlocks the wheels while Aisin moves to the door and opens it. Pathara wheels me over to the door and stops me right in line with Aisin. Aisin smiles with a sincere look that "I don't trust."

"Raddon, welcome."
