Our Night (Part One)
It was all set; I received the funds to a special account. Shelly had a trust fund that she could borrow from to lend to me. Though her father didn’t know, she said she didn’t care as long as we got Alex back safe and alive. If her father found out before then, she would cross that bridge when it came time.
There wasn’t much to do now but wait. Lying on my bed that evening, everything that I had been through with Alex and Shelly and even Matt started to cross my mind. Thoughts of Alex and all his silliness, a bit of a drama queen but he had grown on me over the last couple of years. Shelly well she was a different type of character, smiling to myself. She was loving, kind, intelligent. Which left me wondering how come she didn’t have a boyfriend? She has to be the sweetest girl I have ever met though she was a pain most of the time I could definitely understand why Matt loved his sister. Of course then there was Matt, still trying to figure him out but there was no doubt in my mind that I certainly needed him as an ally and not enemy. Last but not least, there’s Ethan. How could someone so intelligent be so cruel? I guess the real question should be; what happen to him growing up that would make him do such awful things to people. Power, money or was it his own father?
My eye lids grew heavy and I was starting to fall asleep. It will be my first day back to work tomorrow. I grunted a little knowing it was going to be a rough day but there was no way I was going to let work stand in the way of my work outs with Matt! Making a mental note, 'call Matt tomorrow and set up a new time for us to work out together after work.' Reassuring myself, with or without him, I have to keep it up. My life was going to depend on it and Alex’s too for that matter.
It was mid-afternoon and the horn sounded for all employees to break for lunch. Dialing Matt’s number, I waited. “What’s up punk?” It sounded playful, I think.
“Funny. Hey listen, I plan to work out tonight after work. Will you be there?” Standing just outside the warehouse leaning against the wall, silently I was hoping he would say yes.
“Yeah, I guess I could make time for you.” I was in awe when there was no hesitation.
“Sweet, thanks Matt.” I smiled from ear to ear.
“Whatever.” A click sounded from the other end. Shaking my head, I returned to work and tried not to let the days coming throw my focus.
Tired from working all day, I was determined now more than ever to work out. Stepping inside and through the doorway I quickly spotted Matt over at the punching bag. As I approached him, I could see the sweat beading off his forehead and across his chest. “Look, you’re doing really well Sean, so an hour is all we need really.” His words were quick as he continued to punch the bag running through his set.
Glancing up at him after putting my bag down, “I need more time Matt.” I said a little disappointed believing I needed every minute of training I could get.
“What? Why?” He stopped suddenly and stared, his brows creased with concern.
“Why not?” Set on the defense. He knew better than to ask me about something he really didn’t want to know, ignoring my reaction he returned to his set.
“Because I have studies AND …” Matt hesitated as he stopped again, catching his breath. He took a few steps closer to the bag; he leaned against it holding it between both of his gloves as he glared over at me. “ … I’d like to take to you to dinner.” He said with a wink.
Blushing instantly after hearing his words, I smiled and so did he. How could anyone say no to those baby blues, okay, more so; I wasn’t about to let this opportunity pass me by! “Wow, you mean like a date?”
“Well, let’s not jump the gun but yeah something like that. You game?” His facial expression told me that he might not have wanted to admit it but at this point what harm was there for him to consider it as such.
