I hear the whistle, I take off running.
My heart is pounding, my blood rushing.
Not because of the wind, not because of the race.
I am side by side by the one who has captured my soul.
I manage to keep the same pace, but alas it was not to be.
He runs ahead of me a few paces, I fall behind.
I look at his back, content with just that,
But farther ahead he goes.
It is no use, me and my slow running pace.
Unable to be fast, unable to keep up.
His white t-shirt is not yet covered in sweat,
His brown hair reflecting sunlight.
I smile to myself, but a smile that did not last long.
Farther he had gone, to run beside another.
Her hair was bright blond, her figure slim.
I could hear the soft sound of their laughter.
My heart lurches in despair.
I was no match for the blond beauty.
My hair was dark brown, my figure not quite as slim.
And my pace to slow.
The distance between he and I was foretelling the future.
There would be no future between me and him.
There would always be that wall of resistance,
The law of the world has stated that it is not to be.
Though I keep running, I wondered if I should stop.
Was there a point, to this meaningless race?
Depression sets in, and I become lost in my thoughts.
Never would there be a me and him...
No, I will keep running.
I will keep fighting.
I will defy the the law of the world and the law of society.
I will become stronger, faster.
My pace picks up, and I dart ahead.
My breath grows short, my strides longer.
The white shirt has left my view, but it did not matter.
I will do it, I will catch up.
I curse the world and its laws,
I curse the thinking of society.
I will not give up
I will not give up.
Faster and faster I get.
Closer and closer I come.
The laughing pair is back in sight,
A smile crosses my face.
I can do it.
I can do it.
Soon I run right behind them,
All feeling has evaporated.
I feel nothing, nothing at all.
No pain.
No soreness.
Nothing hinders me.
My legs were running on their own,
My arms automatically pumping faster at my sides.
Determination filled me.
I would pass them, I would take him.
I can do it.
I can take them.
I will do it.
I will win.
I will defy everything the world and society teaches.
I will defy them.
I will win.
I will win.
I. Will. Win.
