"You'll be fine," my mum reassures.

"I beg to differ," my heart leaps at the thought of everything that could go wrong. An exchange flight to France sounds exciting, but it is terrifying at the same time. I can't even remember how mum convinced me into this. The constant rush of people scrambling around the airport is overwhelming. Families with screaming babies, men in business suits hastily staring at their watches and massive luggage all around. The speaker crackles on.

"Calling flight 302 for boarding. Repeat, flight 302 boarding now."

"Look! They're letting people on!" Mum squeals excitedly, pointing a long, skinny finger at the now moving lineup of people. I watch passengers begin to board the plane.

"Go! Go! We love you! Now go or you'll be late." She gives me a surprisingly cosy hug despite her thin frame that seems to last forever. I bite back tears at the thought of leaving my mum for a year. Her brunette hair falls across my face. It smells amazing. Finally, mum pulls back and sends me on my way. I watch as she smiles and walks back the way we came. We. She said we love you, despite the fact I no longer have a father. Tears begin to form in my eyes, so I distract myself by looking around. I look down at all my luggage. Ugh. I line up and before I know it I'm at the front. I stare up to see an aggressive looking lady eyeballing me. I step back, nearly tripping on my bag.

"You gonna give me your ticket or what?" she growls.

My mind races. I shove my hand in my jean pocket, fumbling with the ticket. I don't want to go to France. I never wanted to. I straighten myself up as the woman leans forward, as if to intimidate me. Despite my best act of appearing confident, I can't hold it together. Go to France for a whole year? No. No way. I have to leave. I put the ticket back in my pocket. I'll just find mum and tell her. I'm sure she'll understand.

"No, I think I'm just gonna go," is all I can say, spinning on my heel and heading out.

"Huh?" is all I hear before jogging out the doors, leaving her and my luggage behind. I don't even care. I navigate my way back through the airport and finally make it outside. No sign of mum or her car. The clouds outside are much gloomier than when we came in and the strengthening wind plays with my hair. My phone was in the luggage that I left at the airport. I smack my forehead with both hands. Absolute idiot. With a sigh, I scout out the direction I should probably be going and begin the journey home.

As I walk further along the eerily isolated road, I grow more and more irritated at myself for doing that.

"Who am I kidding, mum is going to kill you, Leah!" I mutter at myself. The leaves are turning brown as it gets colder. It is mid autumn and the temperatures are dropping. The only sound I can hear are my feet stepping on old leaves. I stop. Silence. I look up, sighing. The weather is getting worse. Shortly after, I feel a few drops on my head. Sure enough, it's rain.

The hail forms. Cracks of thunder surround me. Uselessly, I cover my head with my hands and start jogging wherever I can see, but the rain is too heavy. The roar of the rain smacking the ground is deafening. No matter how much I try I can't see a couple inches in front if my face. Soon my feet start splashing in the puddles of water forming. I have to find higher ground. Using my feet to guide me up higher land, I head uphill to a thick forest area.

The trees provide little cover, but at least they do anything at all. As the rain dies down a little bit, I am beginning to see more and more. I made a few turns since I entered the forest area, and now I'm not sure where I am. I try to take notice of my surroundings on the way here, but I was more worried about getting to cover and I highly regret that now, because I'm lost. I sit down, gathering my thoughts. I lay down on a soft bed of green grass and let out a slightly frustrated exhale. The world began to turn to a haze...

I awoke abruptly to voices.

"Cordarth, c'mon man, what do I do about her?" A voice came from nowhere

"How am I supposed to know? I haven't seen a human before you fool,"

said another.

"You're the eldest, you should know," argues the first one.

Strange. I heard it. I could of sworn I did. But when I think of when I heard it, I realize there was no sound at all. I keep my eyes closed despite the fact I am now awake. I spend the next few minutes trying to decide whether I should speak or not.

"They can't hear us can they?" asked the first one, who was a boy.

"No, humans can't hear us, Lawr. How many times have I told you?" Cordath snapped. Lawr? Cordarth?  What odd names.

"But remember the legend of Ohen? the pow-"

"Stop with that nonsense! It's just an old fairy tale," Cordarth interrupted. I very slowly crack open my eyes to see a figure leaning over me.

"Maybe we should tell Lyth?" the boy asked. I nearly jumped in shock. His mouth didn't move when he asked the question. It definitely came from him.

I decided to speak up to find out why I can hear them when I'm apparently not supposed to.

"Who's Lyth?" I interject. Of all questions I could have asked, that was the first that came to my head. Fully opening my eyes, I see a guy my age, about 16. He has glimmering black, soft curled hair and amber eyes, which open widely with shock. Taking a step back, he cautiously looks at me.

He squints his eyes mysteriously. Soon I see another boy step out behind the other one, who looks a few years older. He has similar brown hair and is slightly more built than the black haired boy. I assume he's the older one, Cordarth. They both just stare for what seems like forever, until finally they decide to gather themselves.

"Cordarth.. she... has Ohen..." Lawr begins, this time actually moving his mouth.

"And just what exactly is Ohen? What the hell is going on?" I slightly raise my voice out of nervousness. Cordath remains frozen.

"It's the ability to communicate with.." Lawr trails off. His shadowy amber eyes fix on mine. Was this some sort of prank?

"Ability to communicate with what?"I ask, growing nervous despite how silly this all sounded.

Lawr looks questioningly at his brother, who very slowly nods, before turning around. He hesitates for a moment before he speaks again.

"I'm Lawr and I'm a dragon. Nice to finally meet you."
