Mother- 3

Eventually, they had pulled up outside their house and Ben jumped out. Opening the back door he unstrapped Amy and pulled her up into his arms. His mum closed the door and locked it with the remote. Suddenly, Ben noticed movement out the corner of his eye and turned as a man run up to his mum, grabbing her by the arm.

 “Give me the car keys” he blasted.

 Nicky tried to push him away.  “Get off” she screamed.

 This time the mean slapping her across the face, repeating the words “give me the keys now”.

 “Get off my mother now” yelled Ben.

 “Stay away kid” he said, pulling out a kitchen knife

 The attacker turned back to Ben’s mother.

 “Give me the keys, or I will stab you.”

 She paused and looked into his eyes. He looked terrified and his hands were trembling

 “Please” he said “I need a car.”

 She handed over the keys. “Bring it back” she said.

 “I will if I can thank you.”

 “Mum, what you doing?” gasped Ben.

She raised her hand to silence him and watched as their car headed off up the street. 

“Mum, I don’t understand.”

“He needed the car, come on, let’s get in the house.”

They both turned towards the house and saw a man walking towards them from the back of the house.

“Jesus, what now?” sighed Nicky.

As he stepped closer, Nicky noticed that he was bleeding from his arm and that he had a vacant look on his face, his skin was pale and looked clammy.

The man burst in a run towards them and attacked Nicky, his jaws snapping towards her face she pushed him away.

“What are you doing” she screamed.

Suddenly, a car screeched into the driveway, and Ben’s Father jumped out with a crowbar in his hand, blood splattered across his face. He ran to his wife’s aid, slamming the bar across the attackers head.

Nicky jumped back and fell to the floor, watching as Neil repeatedly hit the man over the head with the crowbar, continuing even when the attacker had fallen to the floor. He carried on until the man stop squirming.

Panting over the body, he looked at his wife. “Are you ok?”

“What have you done Neil? You just killed a man.”

“I will explain later, we need to make the house safe.”

“What’s going on Dad?” asked Ben tears in his eyes.

“It’s falling apart Ben, its crazy out there.”

He helped Nicky to her feet and noticed a graze on her hand.

“I’m fine, it doesn’t hurt”

He hugged her. “I’m glad you’re ok”

“You too.” she replied.

Amy started to cry and Ben started to bounce her “I bet this girl is hungry.”

Abruptly, two more men and three women dashed into the garden, pausing for only a second as their eyes quickly scanned the scene in front of them. They all turned to Ben and his crying sister.
