I didn’t get much out of the guy who told me about the rumors because the teacher walked in. The only piece of information I got from him was that his name is Colton. Hmm that’s my soon-to-be tutor’s name. Hopefully he isn’t the guy with the perfect score because he seems like b with an itch.
Detention seemed to last for hours. I have only been in detention three times before, and one time, I was only in there because last year I was in a journalism class and I had to talk to Mr. Fitz (the guy who “hosts” detention). But the two other times I was sent here didn’t seem to take this long. Maybe it was because I was anxious to talk to Colton about these little lies spreading around.
When Mr. Fitz finally told all thirteen of us that we were free to go I literally jumped out of my seat and said very loudly, “Thank you God!!”
He sent me a glare and asked, “Would you like to get another detention for tomorrow Miss Straight?”
Instantly, I shook my head “Nope! I’m good, but thanks for the offer!!” from that, I earned some chuckles from the other students as we were all filing out.
Jake apparently ditched me because his car was nowhere in sight. I saw Colton walking over to a blue Chevy and decided why not? It’s not like I can walk home. With that thought, I started running towards him from the other end of the lot.
“Hey, Colton!” I yelled as he was getting inside his dark blue truck.
He turned his head slightly so that he was facing me “Yeah?” he asked as I was nearing his truck.
“Can I have a ride? Jake ditched.” I answered, adding a shrug.
“um, sure. What’s your address?” he asked when he got out. I told him my home address as we both walked over to the passenger door, and he opened my door. Aw what a gentleman.
We have been in the car for about thirty seconds when the question popped out. “How did you find out about the rumor?” he didn’t look shocked about my question. Actually, it looked like he was expecting it and already planned out an answer.
“Justin posted a picture next to the one of you it the skirt.” He laughed a little, which made me mad, before continuing, “it was of two people making out inside a theater, and the chick from the photo looks like you.”
I was left sitting there dumbstruck. I swear my jaw was touching the floor of the car. What if Jake believes it is me in that picture? Will he trust me when I tell him that it wasn’t me? I mean I would never do that, and especially not with Jake as my boyfriend. I wouldn’t have the guts to do that to him, even though he probably cheats on me every day.
“You okay? You’re lookin’ a little pale,” Colton said cautiously: as if he thinks I’m about to vomit in his nice Chevrolet.
Quickly, almost too quickly, I said to him “Yeah I’m fine.” and turned my attention to the window beside me.
He acted like he wanted to say or ask something but thankfully, he let it go. “Okay.”
We traveled five minutes of uncomfortable silence before it was too much for me. “You don’t believe I did it, right?”
“No. I don’t. You’re too innocent to do something like that.”
I looked at him and asked, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He looked at me with a stupid smirk glued on his face “It means that you are too much of a goody-goody, little church girl to cheat on your boyfriend.”
Who does this guy think he is?! “Uh, excuse me?!”
“I think you heard me,” he said calmly with that smirk still on his face. Well I was right about my first impression of him. He is a bitch.
