Chapter Fourteen

“What are we going to do?” Niall asked after a while.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“About us.” he explained.

“Oh,” I started. “Well we’re going to tell everyone of course.”

Niall bit his lip worriedly.

“You sure? I mean you’re supposed to be deeply in love with Louis...” he trailed off.

“But we’re going to break up at the end of the month and then-”

I stopped, realising what was so blindingly obvious. I couldn’t be in a relationship in public, at least not for a while. There was no way I could break up with Louis and then announce to the world that Niall and I are dating, and we couldn’t tell everyone that me and Louis had only been pretending to be in a relationship either. I couldn’t just jump out of one relationship and into another; even if I wasn’t really dating Louis in the first place the world thought I was. If the fans knew we’d been lying to them all along they wouldn’t be happy, and considering the amount of fans we’d lost (even if it was very little) when they’d found out two of their precious husbands were gay we couldn’t afford to tell them the truth.

That meant there was only one thing we really could do. I’d have to break up with Louis as planned, and then wait until it was okay to tell everyone about me and Niall.

“Liam, you can’t just break up with Louis and then the next day go ‘oh by the way I’m dating Niall now!’. You know how much management loves keeping up our images, you’re Daddy direction, the sensible little puppy not some reckless idiot who goes and dates every single person in the band and then after that Josh and then-”

“Okay, I get it!” I cut him off.

“And then when you’ve dated everyone and get really desperate and slutty you go for Simon.” Niall whispered, a mischievous grin on his face.

“Niall!” I scolded.

“Sorry but that’s what everyone would think. I know you only really want me.” he said, dramatically faking a swoon.

“I just... I don’t want to pretend.” I said after a while, sighing.

“I don’t either, Li.” he replied.

“But then what are we supposed to do?” I asked exasperatedly.

“Well we’ll have to, won’t we? Pretend I mean, at least for a while. It’s the only thing we can do without management having a heart attack or everyone hating us.” Niall said softly.

I knew he was right, of course I did, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to let everyone know that Niall Horan was mine, and I was his. I’d had enough of pretending with acting like I was in love with Louis, and now I had to pretend the opposite with Niall.

“And I mean as much as I want to walk around holding your hand and kissing you in public, I’ve also wanted to do all of that in private for a long while, so I’m sure it’ll be good enough.” Niall said, smiling.

“How long?” I asked.

“Oh, a pretty long time.” he said, a light blush on his cheeks.

“Well I’m up for kissing in private now if you want.” I said, smirking slightly.

“Oh really?” Niall asked.

“Really.” I told him, grinning as I moved towards Niall.

“I think I’ll take you up on your offer.” he murmured, just inches away from my face.
