Demon Hunter V

It was one o'clock in the morning and the air was cold. They walked through the old, Catholic church. They church they were in was made back in the 1580's, so that meant it was a Gothic style building. Stain glass windows, dark stone bricks, dramatic archways. And, of course, tall ceilings. They were so tall, at night, while the church was suppose to be closed for the night, you couldn't even see where the room ended and the roof began. A man and a woman walked slowly through the rows of seats, guns drawn.

"Bollocks! Where'd he go V?" A small woman with flowing, red hair asked in a thick, British accent.

"He's around here somewhere." The man, V, said. With his broad shoulders, and standing at about five nine to five ten, and the cold, almost emotionless look on his face, he was a big scary looking guy.

"What if he took off? Flew out of a hole in the ceiling?" They split up and started heading to the stage on opposite sides of the very large room. V heard this slight fluttering noise coming from somewhere around him. He pushed back the long, leather coat he had on and pulled out his second gun with his one free hand.

"No, I know him. He wouldn't leave without making sure we were in a certain amount of pain. It wouldn't be as fun any other way."

"How do you know so much about..."

"Quiet." V said, cutting her off. "You hear that?" The sound was still very low, but there were more now. The sound of wings fluttering. "I know what that is." Cynthia, get over here now!" He said, yelling out that last part. The second the girl heard this, she sprinted across the room towards him. The fluttering started getting louder and she could hear, whatever it is, was swooping down around her as she ran. V put his hands together, fingers pointing up, and started mumbling to himself, his eyes closed. The second Cynthia got near him, a blue aura of light encircled them. Once the aura closed up, a few of the things that were chasing Cynthia hit the aura and was violently thrown back. They were little bat like creatures, and with the light from the barrier illuminating the area, V and Cynthia could see the room were full of them. Hundreds of them flying around above them.

"Are those what I think they are?" Cynthia asked, looking up at the beasts just waiting to be let in.

"Yup." V answered quickly, his eyes still closed, his hands still together, concentrating.

"Well this is a real dog's dinner, isn't it." One after another, the creatures threw themselves against the aura. Every time they did, the barrier flashed and V winced in pain. Beads of sweat rolled down his face.

"Looks like you're getting tired there. Think you can keep up that barrier for long my old friend?" A voice said. It was as if it was coming from all around them, echoing off the walls of the church.

"Call them off Agares." V yelled, a hint of strain in his voice. The aura started to flicker for a second, than went back to normal. More of the flying creatures started throwing themselves against the barrier.

"What you going to do? You can't keep this up forever." V didn't want to admit it, but he knew he was right. It took a lot of concentration to keep up a barrier. The creatures were hitting themselves against the barrier so hard it was making his head hurt. A drop of blood ran from his ears, down his face, and fell to the floor. He started groaning from the pain, using every ounce of strength he had to keep it up. Cynthia suddenly noticed how close the blue aura was getting. She gently placed her hand on V's shoulder.

"It's ok V. Every demon hunter knows that every mission might be their last." Then without warning, she punched him in the face.

"Cynthia! What's your problem?!"

"You're using Raphael's Aura to protect us. I might not be skilled enough to use it, but I know it take ten times less energy and concentration to just put the barrier around yourself then putting up around two people." Then she punched him again. The hit was so hard, V had to take a step back to keep his balance. The barrier flickered and got a little smaller. V groaned in pain, dropping down to one knee, gripping his head as blood dripped from his eyes. "I love you V." She whispered. V lost his concentration, causing the barrier to shrink so much that Cynthia was now on the outside. Seeing she no longer had the protection of Raphael's Aura, she pulled her pistols out of its holster on her hips and started firing into the approaching swarm of beasts streaming
