Crush, No, Crushed

After eating a two boxes of pizza, a cartoon of strawberry ice cream and watching all the twlight movies it was eleven at night. I got up and stretched, my bones all cracking as I got out of the awkward position I had been in for about four hours. I went into the kitchen to get a drink of water when I heard someone open the front door. I peeked around the corner to see my dad taking off his coat and hanging it on the door. I ran up to him and gave him a big bear hug. He held me tight for a minute and let go. He looked at me and when he saw my red-rimmed eyes(because I was silently crying through all the movies) he frowned and asked, "Hey whats up Ruthy? I thought you'd be happy that your sister came home today. That's why I let you stay home, I knew Renee would be here."

As soon as he asked me that Renee and Nicole came out into the foyer. My dad burst into a big grin when he saw Renee and she ran up to him like I had done and gave him a hug.

"Its good to see you Renee. I missed you so much." My dad told her.

"I missed you too." Renee said back to him.

They pulled back from each other and both looked at me. When I didnt tell him what was wrong he turned to Renee and she told him for me.

"She has had a horrible day. She had her heart broken." Renee looked at me sympathetically.

My dad also looked at me sympathetically and said, "Aww I'm sorry sweetie. I know how hard heartbreak is. If it would make you feel better I can go break the boy's bones for you."

I gave out a strained laugh as tears started to come out of my eyes again. He frowned and pulled me into another hug. "I so sorry Ruthy. Who was it? Who broke my little girl's heart?" His anger rising.

I sighed and said, "Its okay you dont have to break any bones. AnditwasLes." I rushed out the last part so he hopefully woudnt understand. But of course he did and he got even angrier.

"What? What did that boy do? I ought to go over to his house now and give him a piece of my mind. Tell his father to give him a good beating too!" He started to mumble incoherently and I panicked to get him to calm down and not take any action.

"Whoa dad! Its okay, you dont have to do that. He didnt DO anything." Thats an understatement. The only thing he didnt do was love me.

He huffed and mumbled fine to me and put his arm around me. He started to lead me to the kitchen when he saw Nicole.

"Who are you?" He asked her.

She looked uncomfortable and answered, "Hi, umm I'm Nicole. I'm a friend of Ruth's."

"Oh, well hi Nicole. It's late, are you staying over tonight?" He asked.

She was about to say no when I interupted her, "You can if you want Nicole."

She smiled at me and said, "I'd love to. I just have to ask my mom."

She took out her cell phone and ran into the other room to call her mom. My dad turned back to me and said, "I guess I'm going up to bed. Are you okay Ruth?"

I nodded my head and said I'd be fine and he kissed me and my sister good-night before he left to go upstairs to bed. I went back into the kitchen to get my drink and Renee followed me. As I got my drink she told me she was tired too and was going to bed also. I told her good-night and she left the kitchen She stopped at the door way though.

"Everything is going to work itself out in time Ruth. You'll see. So try and get over him and live your life." She reassured me. I faked a smile and nodded. She saw through me and grimaced at me. As she left, Nicole came hopping in and clapped her hands.

"I can stay! But since we have school tomorrow I have to get up early and go home to get ready. I dont live far." She cheered.

I laughed and said, "Alright. We should get to bed then."

I led her upstairs to my room and gave her a pair of my pajamas and let her change in the bathroom as i changed in my room and set up a sleeping area for her on the floor. I pulled out all of the nice, fluffy blankets from the closet and set them on the floor like a bed. I then grabbed the thinner blanket off my bed and my extra pillow for her. I laid on my bed and shut my eyes. A few minutes later Nicole came in and thanked me for setting up her bed. I grumbled a 'No Problem' and leaned over to my nightstand to shut my lights off. It took us both a few minutes to get settled. I thought about Les and what tomorrow would be like. I knew it was going to be awkward between us. I guess I would just ignore him. I was so glad that tomorrow was friday. I could use this weekend to think of what I was going to do about Les. I thought about today's events. My sister came home, I confessed my love to my best friend and in the process lost him and gained a new friend. I was stumbling into sleep when I heard Nicole turn over and whisper to me, "It's going to be okay Ruth. You and Les will work things out."
