Halfway thru my rant about dick-heads and pig-headed men I realised I did not have keys to get inside. Just as I was about to slam my head against the door in frustration it opened. Nas stood in the doorway arms crossed glaring at me. Goh! I feel like I am five again getting in trouble from my mum.
“Where the hell have you been?”
“Is that Ammo?” I heard Mickey ask from somewhere inside
“Goddammit Ammo! You look like shit!”
“Why thank you my dear best friend, I thought I’d try out a new style ya no”
“Sheesh no need to get nasty”
“Nasty? Me? Never!”
Nas gave a un-lady like snort turned on her pink Gucci heels and strutted down my hallway. Her heels making an irritating click clacking sound on the hardwood floors. Looking back, I noticed him still watching me. Was he staring at my ass? Pig! I slammed the door making the glass rattle.
I walked towards the stairs dragging my hand along the light blue walls smiling at the many photos decorating it. I love photos especially photos of people. Photos of my family and friends at party’s or Sunday dinners or when we have just been hanging out.
Hanging on the side of the stairs is my favourite photo. It is about A3 size with a thick black frame. I did not take the photo I do not actually know who did it is a photo of my mother and father when they were teenagers. It was taken on a wharf my mother’s kneeling on the concrete steps. Leaning across to kiss my dad who is in the water but hanging onto the tyre that is attached to the side.
“Ae Ammo you know I was just worried about you right?” Nas asked as she hugged me from behind
“I miss her Nas”
“I no… we all miss her” she whispered as she hugged me tighter
“I need a sesh”
“Ok” she said letting me go
I turned left walking into the kitchen and grabbing the juice out of the fridge. I walked past the table to the sliding door stepping out into the afternoon sun. Mickey was sitting on the L-shaped couch that takes up most of the deck stepping around the glass coffee table I sat next to her. She did not say anything just kissed my cheek as she hugged me.
“I’m ok” I mumbled into her shoulder, she laughed as she let go and went back to chopping the weed with a scissors into a bowl.
“Where is the Lungie?” Nas asked as she came out the door and sat on the other side of me
“Did you look or did you man look?”
“She man looked” Mickey laughed
“Shut up ya toe-jams!” she growled while lifting the couch cushion up and putting her hand into the hole in the couch
“Butt-fluff” I instantly replied
“Ear funk” Mickey tossed in
Rolling her eyes she dropped the cushion back into place and put the lungie* on the table. (*A lungie is like a bong. It is a homemade version where you cut a 2ltr coke bottle in half and sticky tape a bread bag to it, then you twist a little part of the bag bottom to make a handle. The cone piece goes into the lid. As you light up you pull the handle and the smoke fills the bag.) Mickey finished chopping up and passed me the bowl. Grabbing the lungie, I packed some weed into the cone piece holding it between my legs I grasped the handle and as I lit up I slowly pulled the bag out watching the smoke slowly filling the inside.
