Mother at Seventeen

(Chapter 16- All in the open)

“Is Brianna in the bed?” Jake asked.

“Yeah I just got her tucked in and read her a story.” I said.

Jake was being calm for the moment which surprised me. We didn’t speak the whole way back from the restaurant and this was the first time we have spoke. I guess I was right to not talk to him until he calmed down.

“Let’s go to our room so Brianna doesn’t hear us.” Jake said leading me there.

I nodded my head letting him pull me along. I hope he gives me a chance to explain before he lashes out again. I honestly haven’t given it much thought though. I don’t really know how to explain it or make it better.

After we were inside the room Jake turned and closed the door behind me. He walked into our bathroom and began getting ready for bed. I didn’t really know what to do so I did too. Maybe he still needed time to cool off or something and wasn’t ready to talk yet. I could respect that to because that just means he is afraid of what he will do. I think Jake may be starting to change his ways the old Jake would have already started and argument by now.

After I had on my PJ’s I decided to get in the bed, I was feeling rather sleepy anyway. I checked my phone one more time before I turned it off. I figured it was best to not have any interruptions. What Amber had to tell me could wait until tomorrow; I had other things to take care of tonight.  After Jake walked back into the room he looked like he was debating something in his mind. I waited for a few minutes until he finally spoke.

“Why didn’t you tell me that you and Brianna saw Caleb?”

“I don’t know. I guess I was afraid you would overreact.” I said.

“By you keeping things from me and not listening to me when I tell you to stay away from him just goes to show I can’t trust you.” He said.

That almost had me laughing.”You want to talk about trust? Ok, how about you still talking to other girls behind my back?” I spat.

“What are you talking about? I haven’t been talking to anyone.” I said defensively.

“Really?” I laughed bitterly. “Because I beg to differ.”

I walked over to Jake and pulled the phone out of his hand angrily. I opened his messages and found the latest one from Mandy. I turned the phone and put right in front of Jakes face causing him to back up to see it. He pulled the phone out of my hand and studied before realization hit.

“When did I get this?” He demanded.

“When you were putting Brianna in the car tonight.” I said. “Is it true? Have you been talking to her?”

“No, I haven’t spoken to her since you and I decided to be together but that’s beside the point.” He said.

“Then what is?” I snapped.

“ You purposely kept something important from me so I never want you to see Caleb again.”

“That’s ridiculous Jake-“

“Never again or I can’t be held responsible for my actions.” He said fiercely.

“No that’s stupid. Nothing happened between us, we’re just friends. You can’t control my life.” I yelled.

“Abby I’m trying really hard to keep my temper in check but you’re making it very difficult for me.” He barked.

“I don’t care. Caleb has never done anything to you or to me for that matter. You really overreacted, so stop telling me what to do.” I screamed.

“He is planning something I just know it. He is not who you think he is. He is doing everything he can to spilt us up.” He stated.

“He don’t have to, you’re doing a good enough job on your own.” I said harshly and grabbed my keys.

“Where are you going?”

“Leaving.” I replied while slipping on my shoes.

Jake quickly grabbed my arm preventing me from going anywhere and angered me more.

“Let go.”

“No, we are going to talk about this.”

“I’m done talking.” I turned on my heal and opened the door but before I could exit it was pushed closed.

“I’m not in the mood to fight with you.” I said with my back to him and my hand on the door knob.

“I don’t want to fight. I just want you to believe me. I don’t trust him.” Said gently.

Jake wrapped and arm around my waist and pulled me into him while barring his face into my hair. As much as I wanted to push him off I knew I wouldn’t, I loved him too much. I released to door handle and relaxed into him. My arms slowly found his around my waist and I wrapped them over top of his.
