Come Monday morning I sat recounting the boring events of a Sunday afternoon at Jackson's football match. Of course I was aware of how cruelly I was teasing a hungry Beth but each woman to their sport.

"OK so that was Sunday, what about Saturday?" she badgered.

We were sitting on the bus, Jude and Mandy about to join us.

"Did he make a move? What did you guys talk about? Did he ask you out? Are you going to make me sit here and let my imagination do all the work?" Beth whined as the bus shuddered to a stop. I rolled my eyes. "I've only got so much brain power to spare on this as I'll definitely need the rest for that maths test!" That was a lie; she was the best at maths in our year.

Mandy and Jude jumped on the bus running up to join us at the back. They looked at me more keenly than Beth did.

"So come on then–"started Jude.

"-what happened?" finished Mandy.  I shook my head expecting nothing less. I somehow enjoyed watching them fidget but when I could see they were on the verge of bursting I unleashed the details (leaving out the whole Indigo conversation) of Saturday. I mentally congratulated them, their oohing and ahhing timing was impeccable.

"Yeah, yeah that's nice and flowery, with nothing we care about in the middle, but did any making out happen?" Beth asked me outwardly. I rolled my eyes and sighed.

"Almost."

"Almost? What is that supposed to mean?" Beth questioned.

"It means, he tried to kiss me and I...pulled away." I wasn't sure how they were going to react. I waited. They looked at each other first, startled expressions plastered across their faces.

"What. The. Hell," Jude said so wide eyed she looked like she was growing moons in her eye sockets.

"What were you thinking?" Mandy muttered.

"Nothing, that's what she was damn thinking!" Beth added. I really should have guessed that was what she was going to say.

"What's wrong with this one? First Tom, then Devon and now poor Kieran. Have you completely lost your mind?" Jude said.

"We can't all be picky in this world you know!" Mandy protested.

"Speak for yourself!" Beth replied. I stifled a laugh which, unfortunately, succeeded in attaining Beth's attention. "I don't see why you're laughing! If you carry on like this you might not have anything or anyone left to be so fussy about. You'll end up like the cat woman who lives below you," she snapped. I looked innocently at her, pouting my lips slightly and widening my eyes. Mandy and Jude snorted.

"And just so you know, I've lost all interest in what happened on Saturday now! You can only blame yourself!" Beth huffed, lifting her nose. She crossed her legs and sulked.

"Well then I won't tell you about my friend Nate who is a musician, happens to be rather good looking and called me on Saturday afternoon." I glanced sideways at her, knowing she wouldn't resist.

"As far as I know he's single too. But if you're not interested...and if I wasn't so damn picky I might have just snagged him up myself but..." I watched her. Please let her be predictable. She wrestled with her better judgement. She lost.

"When I said I'd lost all interest I was maybe exaggerating a little," she lied, shifting her upturned nose and uncrossing everything in turn. Jude and Mandy tutted. I watched Beth focus on me once more. "I'll be good I promise."

I smiled and relented.

"Well on Saturday I got a phone call from this guy called Nate. I met him briefly on the bus going to see my dad the other week. He was on his way to an audition for a slot in a coffee shop. But we exchanged numbers and he called me on Saturday. He asked if I wanted to go to this gig and I was wondering if you guys all wanted to come." They eyed one another. "Only if you really want to of course. I mean I could always take Sarah Davies. He's just her type," I said.
