Mycroft Holmes was a very busy man. So when his secretary informed him that his brother had come to see him, he seriously considered refusing to talk to them. But that wasn’t very ‘family-orientated’, he decided after a pause. He nodded to his secretary, and followed her out to see his dear brother.
“What is it, Sherlock?” he began as he entered the room. “Contrary to popular belief, I don’t have enough free-time to deal with every problem that you come across.”
“Believe me,” Sherlock said, looking out the window. “If I had a choice in the matter, I would have just called.”
Avery laughed, and Mycroft looked at her in surprise. “Avery?”
She smiled and walked over to hug him.
John was surprised to see Mycroft was in just as much shock as Sherlock had been when first confronted with the girl. John watched her. She must be special then – to be so special to these two.
“When did you get here?” Mycroft asked.
She smiled. “Yeah, like I’m going to tell you that.”
He pulled a face. “Is it so wrong of me to want to keep an eye on you?”
“About as wrong as it is for me to keep an eye on you.”
Mycroft frowned. “You…”
She grinned back. “Maybe.” She stretched and yawned. “Tired.”
Mycroft looked concerned. “Where are you staying?”
She shrugged. “I was going to see if I could crash on Sherlock’s couch.”
Mycroft looked at her. “Your grammar has degraded.”
“I picked up a few habits from Australia.”
“Let me pay for a place to stay.” He said quickly.
“She’s staying with us,” Sherlock cut in.
Sherlock…was fighting with Mycroft…over their sister? What was wrong with the world?
Avery smiled, and looked at John, then nodded for him to leave with her. He frowned. She snuck over to him. “They’re going fight for a bit now,” she whispered to him. “Let’s go have lunch.”
