The Last Memory

**Ellie**

I clicked my heels on the floor as I waited in the chair. I was in the RainColour office building and totally on time. Where was Christina?

Finally after waiting for fifteen minutes, I saw her blonde head walking towards me with a smile.

“Ellie,” she said. “I’m glad you could make it!”

“So am I.”

“Okay, follow me and I’ll take you to my father.” I got up and followed her down the hall and into the elevator. The building was pretty busy as it had many workers running up and down the halls.

Christina led me to a pair of huge, black double doors. She opened them and motioned me to come inside. There, I saw Christina’s dad on the phone wearing a really expensive grey suit.

“Hola, papi,” she greeted her father. “Ellie’s here.”

“That’s nice, Christina,” he said.

“Are you going to show her what to do?”

“I’m busy.”

“But dad-”

“I said I’m busy. Take her to Zoe. She’ll know what to do.”

“Fine,” Christina said softly. “Come with me, Ellie.” She turned away from her father and exited through the door. I followed behind her as she hung her head down.

“You okay,” I asked her.

“Never better,” she said, unconvincingly. She took me to an office which had a blonde haired woman in a green suit. She was staring out the window as if she had lost something.

Christina knocked on the already open door. “Zoe?”

The woman turned around. “Yes?”

“This is Ellie, your new intern. My father said that you would know what to do with her.”

“Yes. Come in, Ellie.”

“I’ll be back for you soon,” Christina said to me.

“Okay,” I replied. I walked into Zoe’s office as Christina closed the door. Zoe immediately came up to me and extended her hand.

“It’s nice to finally meet you Ellie.”

“Nice to meet you too,” I said, shaking her hand.

“So, how long have you been into web designing?”

“Um, a few years now. It helps pass the time when you have nothing to do.”

“Okay. What software are you familiar with?”

“Pretty much everyone out there,” I said.

“Alright, well, when you work for this company, you always have to have a fresh new idea as soon as your previous one is developed. What I’m going to do is let you have my computer for half an hour and see what you come up with.”

“Am I just brainstorming for the company?”

“Yeah. Just so I can see where your skill level is.” Did she seriously doubt my abilities?

After working diligently for half an hour, I pretty much blew Zoe away with my skills. Afterwards she showed me her different software’s, editing tools, and previous web designs. I learned things I never would have learned in my computer class. It seemed so insignificant when I looked back at it.

With a few hours gone to my student learning, Christina came by the office to pick me up for lunch. It was a bit early, but I accepted her invitation.

She took me out to a restaurant called The Big Spot. True to its name, it was pretty big and really expensive.

As we ordered our food, I could tell that she was deep into thought about something.

“Christina, what’s wrong?”

She broke out of thought. “Huh? Oh, nothing. So, how was your day?”

“Pretty good. Way better than our stupid computer class.”

“That’s good.” She looked down at the table. Something was definitely wrong with her. Even though we weren’t friends, I still felt obligated to ask her.

Before I could say anything, our food arrived, giving her an excuse to move on from the subject. But I wasn’t giving up that easily.

“What’s on your mind,” I asked her.

“Nothing. It’s…nothing.”

“It’s okay Christina.”

“What?”

I leaned forward. “I saw the way your father talked to you this morning. Is he always like that?”

“What?” she shouted. People started looking in our direction. “How dare you make an accusation like that!”

I raised my eyebrow. “You’re the only one making accusations. I didn’t say anything.” She looked around and saw all eyes on us.

“Fine,” she said. “You caught me. My father hasn’t had any time for me ever since his stupid business soared off a year ago. That’s why I’m always at his office, hoping in the slim chance that he would just drop everything and spend time with me. I tried so hard at getting his attention.”
