The Fake Mate
Chapter eight
Seth
Walking into school holding hands with Paige was like a dream. No one and nothing could wipe the smile from my face. Just waking up and knowing she was near was enough to put me in a good mood.
I looked over and watched as she smiled at people as they walked by. I could tell she was liked by mostly everyone in the school. But beneath the smile was still a tinge of sadness. She took Connor’s betrayal hard, and I only hoped I would be able to help her.
“Would you mind letting go of my hand? I have to open up my locker,” Paige said. I blinked a few times, not realising we had already made it to the second floor. I dropped her hand and accepted the shy smile she sent me.
She got her stuff and then grabbed my hand, intertwining us again. Just the fact that she reached out for contact made my wolf howl. He was pleased that she recognized us as her mate.
We walked to our first class and I eagerly pulled her into a seat beside mine. Her red headed friend began talking to her immediately so I leaned over and poked Ben’s shoulder. “Hey man,” I grumbled.
Ben turned to me, a lazy grin on his face, “I see you and Paige are on good ground.”
I peaked at Paige from the corner of my eye and smiled, “Yeah, we’re good.”
Ben clapped my shoulder, “That’s good to hear, Seth.” His face turned serious as he leaned closer towards me, “What are you going to do about that Connor guy?”
I growled under my breath, “Everything in me wants to track him down and kill him.”
“If that’s what you decide, I’ll stand by you,” Ben said.
I grimaced, “I hope so, you are my beta after all.”
Ben laughed and nodded, “That I am. But seriously, you can’t just let him leave.”
I sighed, “I know, but I don’t want to kill him. I think as much as Paige hates him, she still... cares for him to a certain degree,” I spat out. The very thought of Paige caring for Connor was enough to send my wolf into a frenzy.
“Why don’t we just track him down and beat him up,” Ben suggested. I looked over at Paige to make sure she wasn’t eavesdropping and was satisfied to see her and Laura laughing.
I nodded, “I think that’s a good idea, I need to ask him a few questions.”
“Like what?”
“Like how he found out about Paige, if there are people who know then we need to track them down as well and shut them up. We can’t have rumors about her flying around. It would put her safety in jeopardy.”
Ben nodded, “Alright, when are we going?”
I looked over at Paige and frowned, “The sooner the better. We’ll go tonight.”
Ben leaned back in his seat and nodded curtly as the teacher walked in and demanded attention. I caught Paige looking at me and smiled at her before catching her hand in mine. She tilted her head to the side as if she were contemplating something, and then dropped it.
Lunch rolled around faster than I would have thought possible. I hurried the Cafeteria, eager to see Paige. I ran over to where Ben and Laura was and grabbed a tray. “Where’s Paige?”
