Chapter 20- O'Conner Drama

I'm in my room getting dress to go out with my mom like she promised me yesterday. I'm pretty sure what she has is mind is to go get birthday supplies for Parker's birthday. I hid in my closet trying to pick out my clothes as I got Parker to sit on the bed playing: 20 Questions with him; conveniently all about his birthday and his party since we had only mentioned it yesterday.

"Um, question twelve. What's your favorite action hero or super hero?" Whatever you want to call them these days, I added in my thoughts.

"I like Iron Man the best. But I also like Captain America, Thor, Spider Man, Hawk Eye; the Hulk is my least favorite, but I like him too I guess." He answered it as casually as possible. I couldn't help but let out a little chuckle. He doesn't have one favorite, he has five.

"Uh huh." I mumble plainly looking over a checkered shirt wondering why I kept it all these years, "Uh, question thirteen. What's your favorite color?"

"Green and orange." He replies having to think about it. Well that's different, a lot of kids just say blue, well, mostly everyone says that. Blue is a nice color though, but I like those other shades of blue, not regular blue that's too plain.

"Question fourteen. What's your dream birthday party?" I asked nonchalantly, like he would think any more of it. To him this was just a simple game to occupy both our times.

"A huge bouncy house!" He said, emphasizing the word huge, "And a yummy fun-fetti cake with blue frosting, and those candles that spell out my name. Oo, and maybe even a slip 'n slide." He said all excited, "Do you think people from a zoo could ever come to your house and throw a show for you with real animals? Cause that would be cool!"

I chuckle at his creativity, loving that he's telling me all this stuff. I bet we could make it happen. I take out a pair of black shorts that went up mid-thigh and a black lace cami, searching for a shirt to put on top.

"Oh question fifteen!" I remembered, easily getting distracted, "What's your favorite animal? From the zoo." I added.

"Um, I don't know. I've never been to the zoo." He responded. I could hear the springs in my bed squeak slightly as if he were bouncing up and down on my bed.

"You haven't been to a zoo?" I asked shockingly, sticking my head out the door to catch him in the act of jumping.

He fell on his knees, giggling when I caught him, "No. Mommy never had the time, she was always, um. I don't know- Nate said she was always out on emergencies with my Aunty and Grammy."

I scrunch my forehead and brows together, confused. I wonder if that has anything to do with them being suddenly just dropped off here on our door step. I shrug it off, trying not to worry about it too much, I should just ask Nathan one day. For some reason though, I feel like he wouldn't even know. He never talks about it, maybe that's something I should ask my mom about today.

"Oh, well, uh, question sixteen," I went along feeling uncomfortable with the topic, "What's your favorite movie?"

"Oh that's easy. Anything with super heroes in it. Or a funny cartoon. The last time I went to the movies I got to see The Lorax." He answers happily.

"Did you like that movie?" I ask picking up that checkered shirt I didn't like. I narrowed my eyes at it looking at myself in the mirror with it on. Not that bad I guess. It's red and navy blue with just a little bit of white. I may just like this checkered shirt now.

"Yeah! It was funny. Those bears making the faces, and the chubby one in the fridge eating butter." He cracks up laughing and I could hear him rolling around in my bed fooling around.
