He was the bee's knees, the cat's meow, and the cat's pajamas.

And I was not; as you can tell by my un-hip choice of lingo.

Now don't go getting the wrong idea. This isn't another one of those stories where the invisible, unpopular girl has a crush on the smokin' hot "it" boy, she gets his attention, they kiss, happily ever after, yadda yadda yadda.

Life doesn't happen like it does in books. It's usually better, more interesting, as is my story.

----

He was blonde. He was tall. He was handsome. He was my best friend.... A life-time ago. Through elementary school, we were inseparable. No one saw Drake without seeing Amy; and thus our "celebrity couple" nickname was born: Dramy.

Our reign of "cutest child couple" had to end at some point, however, and that point was when my mom decided to home-school me through junior high and high school.

Even though we were next-door neighbors, Drake and I drifted apart after fifth grade. He became involved with sports, I became involved with theater. He grew up to be the hottest guy in his high school, I was a late-bloomer, not growing into myself until late in senior year.

But now, our years of separation were coming to an end: We were both accepted to the same university with full-ride scholarships. So it was settled, we were both being thrown into each other's worlds yet again. My parents called it fate, I called it crap. Who cares if we were moving cross-country to the same school? We had been neighbors since the ripe age of 2, so what difference would these four extra years make?

Once our first semester's schedules arrived via email, which consisted of nearly identical general education courses, I could no longer brush off the idea of fate that my parents so often gushed about. They wanted Dramy to last forever. They saw Drake as their son, and had always suspected we would one day become romantically involved.

As I stepped foot onto the university campus, I decided that today wouldn't be that day. Neither would tomorrow, or any day after that. Because the first thing I saw when I entered the school was some blonde bimbo sucking Drake's face off like there was no tomorrow.

And it broke my heart.
