I was frozen in shock, unable to move or comprehend what just happened. Joel stood hugging me and I thought I would never see him again, then suddenly like a light flickering on he is here in my room and I am told I was allowed to be with him. The door clicked and I remembered Luke leaving and wanting to chase after him, but my body would not move.

“Luke, what is that boy doing here?” I could hear Max outside the door, almost snarling.

“I brought him here,” Luke said softly in response.

“Why did you bring him here?” Max sounded angry.

“Because Annie loves him, and all I want is for Annie to be happy.”

“Luke, did Annie say anything to you tonight?” I heard Macy say and I bit my lip.

“It doesn't matter, Annie is with Joel and happy now, and that's all that matters.”

“What about you? Are you happy about this?” I heard Max yell back.

“No, but there is nothing else I can do.” as I heard a door open and close I instantly felt horrible, but I was still stunned to do anything.

I was brought back in my current situation when I felt Joel pulling out of the hug we had been sharing, and remembered he did not hear a single drop of the conversation that had just taken place outside the door. His smile pulled at the corners of his mouth as it reached his eyes. I know I had started developing feeling for Luke, but Joel was my first love and no one could replace that. He grabbed my hand and pulled me over to the bed as we sat beside each other.

“Annie,” I looked at him and melt as I normally did “, I have something I need to ask you.”

“What is it?” I asked my voice cracking not really sure of what he was going to say.
