It all started on the day the world ended and a new era began. People started to mutate into weird creatures no one has ever seen before. There was only one place where we human were safe... The beach, that’s where the non-infected take refuge. I don’t understand how this infection spread so fast, if you can even call it that. Some people that got infected died in the process of changing so they never got a chance to become one of them. I’m one of the lucky ones I've lived on the beach my entire life, so I didn’t need to pack up and run for a safer place with my family or; so I thought. My family got infected and they died while changing but it doesn’t matter I’m use to be on my own. I was an outcast all throughout high school no one ever wanted anything to do with me and I was fine with that I’ve always liked being on my own and I still do.
Staring out my window at the now broken city I hear the pitter patter of the sort rain falling on my roof top followed by a loud clash of thunder. Closing down the window and locking it I see a flash of lightning streak across the dark clouded night sky. Walking out of my room I hear another clash of thunder this time louder than the first, I walk all over my house closing the windows and turning on the lights hoping the storm doesn’t cause a blackout. I sit down on my black leather sofa in the lounge room grabbing out my favourite book I start to read it when I get interrupted by people banging on my door. Ignoring the noise I continue to read which was a big mistake for the people who were banging on my door were infected and I had no way of defending myself. The pounding continued for several minutes until the door gave in, with one final pound the door came off of its hinges and it fell to the floor with a thud.
By now I was on my feet franticly looking around for something I could use to defend myself. In my frantic haze I spot my older brother’s samurai sword hanging from the wall that he gave to me for my eighteenth birthday, I ran over to it and I yanked it down just in time for as I turned around sword in hand I saw that I was surrounded by these infected creatures. They walked closer to me taking slow uneven steps; gripping the handle of the sword tighter than necessary I hear Andrew’s voice in my ear encouraging me, cheering me on. Taking a shaky step of my own I swing the sword at a nearby creature slicing him in half. Screaming in fear I run at the creatures killing them as I go, I make my way to the open space where the front door use to be only to find twice as many waiting for me outside. Slicing more of the creatures I run onto the sandy beach to find that all of the people that were on the beach were now either dead or infected. Shock spread through me as I relised that that there was no way to escape this, every moving thing was infected and they were all coming for me. Lifting my weapon up again I fight off the ones in front forgetting that there were some creeping up behind me. A strong scaly hand grabbed my wrist and squished it so tight that it made me drop the sword that’s when they all pounced on me. The weight that was upon me was unbearable and the force or it made me fall on to my back, but what came next was even worse. One of the creatures had bitten down on my arm and I screamed in agony. I felt something wet and slimy on my skin where I had been bitten, then I felt it merge with my blood and the pain started to disappear. This was it, I was turning I was going to become a monster; I was infected… As the poison pulsed through my body I started to feel numb, the pain was gone and I could barely feel anything. My eye lids started to feel heavy and I had trouble keeping them up, I struggled to keep them open feeling if I closed them that they would never open again. Finally giving in to the temptation my eyes slowly closed and I drifted off to sleep wondering if I will die or change either way I will never be the real me again…

My team and I ran though the dimly lit streets trying to get to the beach as fast as we could to save all of the people that are there, swinging at the monsters with my metal baseball bat I see in the distance the big blue ocean just up ahead. I start to run faster thinking that we might be too late, finally arriving on the sandy beach I see that it is all covered in dead bodies and a whole lot of monsters. Swiping the monsters running towards us I hear a female scream in fear, looking back at my team they give me a nod
