Chapter 10: Impasse

The girl had hold of a hank of my hair with each fist and she was using it to keep me immobile. I couldn’t quite see what her next move would be, with both of her hands occupied and a seeming aversion to fighting to win. There didn’t seem many options open to her. Before I could turn the tables on her in one of the myriad ways I was envisioning, she leant forward and looked me straight in the eye.

“I don’t know who the hell you think you are or why you thought that my boyfriend even wanted to kiss you because let me tell you, you’re not all that and if I ever see you near him again I will hurt you.”

She thought she was intimidating? She might even have been intimidating to me not so very long ago but the fact was that I had recently acquired multiple demons as housemates and the ability to suck out men’s souls when I kissed them. There was only one thing in the room that did intimidate me and I was pretty sure for whatever reason, he had my back. Usually my action would have been to tell her all of this; her short attention span would have meant she didn’t listen beyond the first couple of words and it would have all been downhill from there. This time was going to be different as my body was still working by instinct.

As she stood there glaring and still hanging onto chunks of my hair, I returned the favor by tightly grasping some of her perfect ringlets. Honestly I didn’t have my next move planned, but as her eyes widened and fear rolled off her in waves the instinct was what made me pull her forward and mesh our mouths together. It was something like a pulling, this instinct and as our mouths linked I immediately felt the transference of power from her to me. Even though I already felt full with what I had just taken, the feeling was so good and slightly different to the other times. It was a couple more seconds before I drew my head back and thrust her away from me.
“You sick fucking bitch!” she shouted from where she now stood, a few meters away from me.
Oh God. I felt my mouth drop open and was completely beyond the ability to shut it again. Oh God!
“That wasn’t in the contract either babe. We can add it if you want though.  You know, just to broaden our horizons a little. See you just did something that’s never been done before.”
My face flushed even more as I looked at him.
“I’m pretty sure girls have kissed before there’s no need to make me feel more stupid than I already do.”
He stepped closer and brushed a piece of hair back from my face.
“Of course girls have kissed before I’ve had the pleasure of seeing it many times,” I rolled my eyes at his arrogant aside but he merely carried on. “But that kissing has never resulted in the transference of soul. So I’m pretty astonished that you decided you wanted to kiss her.”
“That’s just it though! I didn’t decide I wanted to kiss her!”
“Look, you don’t have to justify yourself to me. If you like to kiss girls you like to kiss girls. I would just suggest that if you’re trying to hide it, this anti-lesbian thing is a bit too ‘methinks he doth protest too much’. You know what I mean?”

I turned away from him before I decided that the desire to punch him in the face was something I should give into. I realized then that most of the people in the club were staring at me as though they’d never seen two girls nearly fight and decide to kiss instead before. That was pretty standard fare at the parties I had been to before but they were generally drug-fuelled ones.

“I think we should get out of here.”
I looked in surprise at Grey. Beating a hasty retreat didn’t seem exactly his style.
The feeling of being sated was so strong that I just wanted to lay down and sleep, so I nodded and he led me quickly away to find somewhere quiet where we could presumably initiate travel without being seen. Unfortunately, every corner of the club seemed to be inhabited by somebody and as Grey dragged me around his movements communicated his sense of desperation.
“Grey, what’s wrong?”
His head swiveled towards me in a motion that he seemed unable to stop, his eyes looked into mine shining with an odd light.
“You don’t know how you look right now, to them, to me. You have not a single clue what all that power does to you.”

Although we were trying to get home the sudden urge to see what he was talking about was overwhelming. Did I really look so different? I was the one dragging him now over to a mirrored wall where there was a space for me to stand and look at myself, at the person who resembled me in a way that scared me. My eyes were shining with an unholy light like the one in Grey’s eyes as he stepped up behind me so that his front was to my back. I was scarily beautiful. I could only see myself in the very basics of my face, everything was infinitely improved. I couldn’t seem to draw my eyes away but then Grey’s fingers gently brushed up against my chin and tipped my head up, his mouth meeting mine as he seemingly helplessly, thrust his erection against me.
