Chapter Ten:
As we walked back to my house Ten-Ten was unusually quiet.
“Are you ok?” I asked her and she looked at me curiously.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Why?” She mumbled and I shook my head.
“You’re just really quiet.” I said softly and she laughed.
“Yumi, I’m fine. I was just thinking about Nej---” She started but froze mid-step when she looked infront of her. My eyes drifted to where she was looking and my heart stopped. Laying in the middle of the street was a very bloody Neji. Ten-Ten bolted towards him and didn’t notice the wires drawn tight across the street.
“Ten-Ten don’t!” I screamed and she froze at my words.
“Why?” She asked and I motioned for her to look down. She glanced at her feet where she was about to step on one of the tiny silver wires and jumped back to me. I looked at the pattern of the wires and a wide grin spread across my face.
“I can do this.” I said smiling and took a deep breath. I let my mind loose and focused only on my feet. I shut my eyes and let my instincts take over as I danced through the maze of wires. I had the pattern memorized, so all I had to do was do what I had done a thousand times before. I twirled and leaped in all the right places as a piano played in my head. When I opened my eyes again I was standing next to Neji and Ten-Ten was staring at me with a confused look on her face.
“What was THAT?” she asked and I shrugged.
“What I did before I came here.” I answered simply and picked Neji up. This time going back it was a little harder, having another person’s weight on my shoulders, but I managed to get back with only a few minor cuts on my feet. Being in dance for so long I had learned to dance well, even with the extra weight. When I got back I heaved Neji off of my shoulders and Ten-Ten and I carried him to the hospital. By the time we got there I was light headed and my feet were throbbing.
“Yumi?” I heard someone say when we had Neji into a room but I couldn’t focus on the voice. My vision became blurry and I started to fall to the floor.
“Yumi? What’s wrong?” I heard Ten-Ten ask but I couldn’t respond. I tried to tell her I was fine, just exhausted, but nothing would come out.
