CHAPTER 15

I was just starting to enjoy Larson’s tantalizing kisses as they traveled from my neck and back up to my jaw line, when he spoke again. This time his voice was so low I had to concentrate with severe effort to grasp his words, even though his mouth was now practically against my ear.

“We’re being watched. Follow my lead.” Larson nibbled on my earlobe as I tried to keep my cool.

“Just relax,” he whispered again just as softly.

“Whatever you say,” I purred back, and was faintly elated to feel his lips form a smile against my cheek. Oh yeah, this would be an Emmy worthy performance. Silently, I thanked the shots of tequila I had earlier, without which I probably wouldn’t have been brave enough to pull this off.

I grabbed a fistful of his shirt, pulling Larson even closer to me, so that every part of us was touching again. “Mmm, Viktoryia,” It was almost a moan. His feigned desire sent a burning heat through my body. Larson sure could act.

No longer whispering, he said, “Let’s take this somewhere more private, yes?”

“Yes, please,” I said, aiming to make my words sound needy with desire.

“Want another drink?” he asked as we passed the bar on our way out.

“No baby, I just want you.” Okay, so that was probably a little over the top, but it made Larson smile. Whoever watched us would only think we were continuing our flirtatious banter.

The parking lot was empty, with the exception of the two of us and one other vampire aura that I could sense lingering somewhere in the darkness. I couldn’t hear any footsteps which creeped me out. It was a lot scarier when I knew I was being pursued, but couldn’t actually pin point my attacker’s location. I would have felt much better if my aura sensing skills had come with a GPS.

Without warning, Larson pushed me up against someone’s car so hard I was actually shocked the alarm hadn’t gone off. He was pressing his body hard against mine, while one of his hands traveled slowly down my side. When he reached my mid thigh, Larson’s hand latched on, pulling my leg up and around him, hiking up my already short dress.

A very real gasp escaped me, but I kept my eyes locked on his. I did this for two reasons. One, so as not to be tempted to look for our pursuer, and second, to give him a glare that said my compromising position was a tad too much.

Larson didn’t heed my warning. Instead, he crushed his lips against mine with a hunger that made me dizzy. I tried to voice my disapproval but instead it came out as a moan. Whatever, it would only add to the illusion that Larson and I only had one thing on our minds.

Larson spoke against my mouth, “Duck.”

Without hesitation, I obeyed, dropping to the ground as Larson moved his head just in time to avoid a punch that shattered the car door’s window.

I whirled out of the way, but stopped when I was at a safe enough distance that I wouldn’t be hit, but could jump in if Larson needed my help. I watched from where I stood as some goddess-like blonde tried to impale Larson in the head with her fist. It didn’t take me long to realize I recognized this vampire; she was the one I’d seen on the dance floor earlier.

The skank was fast, and she managed to stab Larson’s thigh with the tip of her stake-like stiletto heel. It made it in a good two inches before stopping. Dark liquid oozed out around the imbedded heel. Other than sending her an offended look, he seemed mostly unfazed, but I shot up outraged.

“Hey, bitch,” I growled.

She sent the coldest look I’d ever seen in my direction, but my movement had distracted her long enough that Larson grabbed her foot, and pulled her stiletto from his leg, which made a nasty, wet tearing sound. The blonde vamp let out a wicked hiss when she realized she was at a disadvantage with Larson’s firm grasp around her delicate looking ankle.
