CHAPTER 28
TAKEN
I woke up the next day with a cold feeling around me. I turned around and I saw Gabriel’s smile inches from my face.
“Good morning.” he greeted and kissed my forehead.
I smiled. “Good morning.” I said.
“Did you have any bad dreams?” he asked me as I sat up and leaned my head on the headboard.
“No. I was dreaming about the two of us. You and I, living happily ever after. I so want that to happen.”
His face lit up in seconds and he rushed to press his lips on mine.
“Don’t worry, my love. We will make it happen. Our love shall last forever.” he said thoughtfully.
“Yeah, we will.” I agreed.
He cooked breakfast for us in the kitchen, while I pampered myself with the soothing view of the vast ocean in front of me. Form where I sat, I could almost feel the comfort it brought and suddenly, I found myself falling asleep again.
We’ve been here in Mexico for almost a couple of weeks now. We enjoyed every single second we have with each other. The house that we live in is his property, and now, I felt like it’s my own too.
I never regretted marrying him in the first place. Despite his being a vampire, he didn’t make a single mistake to hurt me. I love him more than any other human guy in this world. He’s everything I want, and would always want forevermore.
I could smell the bacon and roasted chicken from my seat. I instinctively stood up and went to hug Gabriel from behind.
“That tastes good.” I said.
Though I couldn’t see it, I knew he smiled.
“How can you know it? It’s not even in your mouth.”
“Well, because for me, you’re the best chef in the world.” I smilingly said and kissed his cheek as he prepared the mashed potatoes.
We ate breakfast at the balcony with the sun and sea breeze adding romance to the atmosphere. Everything around us was bright and calm. We sat across from each other while I nibbled on the potatoes.
“Is it delicious?” he asked.
“Yeah. Very.” I said.
“That’s good. Keep eating.”
We were silent for a few minutes. He was reading a book while I finished on my food.
I’ve been bothered by a question. Though I was afraid of the answer, I still asked him about it.
“Gabriel, what if I’ll die in the near future? Would you still love me even if I’m not here?”
His deep blue eyes fell into sadness.
“I don’t want that to happen. Or if it’s too inevitable, I won’t love any other girl aside from you. You’re the reason why I live.”
I felt a sharp pang on my chest as he said those words. I was afraid I hurt him with my curiosity.
“I’m sorry. I guess I should’ve never asked.”
He held my hand. “It’s alright. Even if you can’t be one of us, I’ll still love you with all my heart.”
“I love you too.” I said with my eyes welling up with tears.
In response, he made that same smile I really loved from the beginning.
After we had breakfast, we prepared ourselves for another trip down Mexico City. For our agenda today, we’ll visit cathedrals and the best places downtown. We had the whole day with each other and he always showed his affection towards me in public.
When we took a break at an ice cream parlor, I sensed that someone was following us. Gabriel and I had been talking for almost an hour, and out of the corners of the street, I saw Hector staring at us.
“No, this can’t be.” I whispered to myself as I looked at him from my place. My heart began to beat wildly in fear, afraid that he might take me away from my husband.
“Zera, what’s wrong?” Gabriel asked, his hand reaching out to mine.
I could barely let the words out of my mouth.
“Y-Your father, he’s here.” I said.
He turned his head around to look for him, but found no one. There were just ordinary people walking on the street and enjoying the warm weather.
“I can’t find him.”
“That’s impossible. He’s always everywhere, and he’s stalking us.” I almost cried in front of him.
He stood up and covered me in his arms. He kissed my forehead to subside the fear I felt inside.
“I would never let him touch you, okay? Trust me, everything’s fine, and he’s not here.”
“Okay.” I half-nodded in agreement.
And the next thing I saw, Hector was at my sight again. A huge smirk was playing on his features.
