Chapter nine
The party is in full swing by the time we arrive. I step out the car and leave Alima to find a parking space.
I knew of this party from my dear, old friend Sally. Just one phone call and Alima and I have exclusive entrance to the party of the year. Every cool person will attend this party, giving me the best opportunity to seek an available guy.
I walk up the threshold, stepping aside to let a slurring couple stumble by. It’s like the music got turned up when I step inside as the loud sound nearly deafens me.
Passing through the huge crowd clutched together, I cuss under my breath. Someone gropes my ass and I shriek. Snapping my head back, I slap the person across the face.
“Baby, let’s take it upstairs,” I’m not sure that’s what he’s even saying because he’s so drunk he’s not even standing straight. I roll my eyes at his drunken state and think about the laws being broken tonight.
I can guarantee you half these people are not the legal drinking age. I turn around and hurriedly carry on making my way through the crowd in hopes of not getting touched up again.
“Vienna!” someone screams right down my ear. I flinch away, rubbing at my poor ear. Turning my head to my side, I face Sally.
She’s dressed in a very cute outfit; a short lilac dress coated with black glitter. Her blonde hair is pulled up in a messy bun, letting loose strands fall out.
“Hey Sally!” I shout back, giving her a hug. When we pull back, she beams down at me.
She starts to say something, but I shake my head. “I can’t hear you!” I yell over the music.
Sally nods and grabs my hand, pulling me away. I stop at the kitchen and grab myself a can of soda. We walk out of the house, into the backyard without anyone else grabbing my ass.
“Gee, people seriously know how to be loud,” Sally breathes out, pulling her dress down. I can still hear the music from out here, but it isn’t as loud.
“And touchy,” I add, taking a sip from my drink. Sally chuckles at me before digging for something….in her bra.
I stare in wonder as she magically pulls out a pack of cigarettes along with a lighter. Sally laughs at my expression, completely ignoring my gaping mouth, and lights the killing-tobacco-filled stick.
“No comment…” I mutter, shaking my head in disbelief.
“What? You need to learn how to smuggle in things,” Sally draws out the word ‘things’, taking a drag from her cigarette.
“Sorry, but I won’t need to smuggle ‘things’ anytime soon.” I put four fingers in the air and quote the word ‘things’.
“We’ll see about that,” Sally replies, giving me a small wink.
“I can bet that such a thing will never happen,” I say just as Alima walks through the sliding door. Her face lightens up at Sally and they both meet half-way in a hug.
“You look gorgeous! I didn’t even recognise you!” Sally exclaims, giving Alima an once-over. Alima blushes at the compliment and smiles down at our friend.
“You look stunning yourself, per usual.”
Sally giggles, playfully slapping Alima’s bare hand. And just as quick, they fall into their own conversation. Sally is our only friend, who understands us like we are. She has never turned her back on us, never judged us or sold us out.
Observing our surroundings, I notice a group of boys sitting on the dry grass, drinking.
They are laughing so loud, but it seems like they’re not drunk at all. I stare, shamelessly, at one particular boy who catches my attention.
He has an odd shade of blonde hair and he looks so familiar. And, he’s quite handsome too.
Just like that, my mind registers him as a target. I can’t help but let a pervert smile overpower my face.
Let’s just hope he’s available; it will make things whole lot less complicated. The boy, then, decides to look up at that second and shoot me a dazzling grin my way. Yep, definitely a target. I smile at him, tapping my chin.
