I had lost my pack back in the forest when Osarius had been chasing me, but I still had my cloak with me, and though it wasn’t much, it kept me somewhat warm as the wind blew across my body. This reminded me of swimming, the water rushing over my body, filling my every pore with strength and excitement.

The wind whipped my hair all around and I felt… powerful. I felt like those girls in the movies who’s hair blew everywhere right before they did something insane or totally epic. I was excited for battle, and I knew then that I was completely without sanity.

I was flying in the forest around the clearing. I needed my side to see me first, so that they would pull out and this battle could stop. I finally made it to what I assumed was my side, though it was too hard to tell with bodies clashing all around. It looked like the battle had just begun, but there were still many bodies littered across the battlefield and a tear slid down my cheek.

I saw a griffin that had a huge gash in it’s side that blood was gushing out of and it was still fending off the enemy, whilst some light elves were trying in vain to heal the deadly wound. I landed near the group and sprinted the rest of the way. “Stand back!” I screamed at the elves. My eyes were brimming with tears and I hastily wiped them away. I had to stay strong. I let my hands hover over the griffin’s wound and closed my eyes. I reached into my power source, willing it to heal the griffin, but nothing was happening.

“Princess,” one of the elves shook my shoulder.

“I said stay back!” I sneered, and I threw out my hand, willing the water molecules to throw him back. The other elves gawked at me and I knew I was behaving rashly, but I was in war mode, and I was frightened beyond compare. “Go help the wounded!” I commanded, and they ran off to follow my orders.

I had an idea and I looked to the river running next to the battlefield. I closed my eyes and reached out to it. I felt a tugging sensation in my gut and I pulled on it. The water rushed towards me and it washed over the griffin. I then held a silent prayer in my heart to the three water spirit sisters. “Please heal this creature of light,” I whispered. I let the water wash away from the griffin to find the wound was healed. “Thank you,” I whispered again.

The griffin made a sound of approval and stood up to shake the extra water out of it’s feathers. It then lowered it’s back, an invitation to get on. I gladly accepted, already feeling exhausted. “To Brayden!” I commanded, and with that we were lifted high into the air, high above the battlefield. I rested against the back of the griffin for a minute then sat up when we started descending.

At first the griffin, Tobax, started going down almost horizontally, then all of the sudden we were vertical with the ground. Tobax tucked in his feathers and we were nose diving, I then started screaming bloody murder. Below us on the ground was Brayden. He was fighting a goblin and a shadow hound, and the goblin had just run Brayden through with his sword while Brayden was occupied with fending off the shadow hound’s foaming mouth. “No!!!!” I screamed as I watched the scene play out just seconds away.     “Tobax, I’ll grab Brayden and you kill the imp and his mutt!” I yelled, and Tobax made a sound that easily compared to laughing. Something that signaled, ‘Piece of cake!’ Tobax swooped gracefully into a landing, and I leapt off of his back. I ran over to an almost lifeless Brayden while Tobax took care of the goblin and hound.

I cradled Brayden’s head in my arms and my tears landed on his cheeks then slid off leaving clean tracks on his dirt covered face. “Brayden, stay with me! Please!” I cried out. Tobax was attacking anything that dared to come near Brayden and I. Brayden’s eyes opened weakly and he peered at me.

“Rose? Did we win?” He asked.

“Yeah,” I choked on my lie. If he was going to die, he needed to be happy. “Hey, listen,” I cupped his deathly pale face as his eyes closed. “Your not going to leave me, okay? I really need you, and I… I love you,” I whispered.
