Chapter.6 The name game

"So! What were some of the names you came up with?" I grinned, my excitement getting the better of me. It was staring to feel real that a baby would soon be in all of our lives.

Christina smiled, grabbing a hold of my hand and squeezing it. "Well I liked the names Samantha, Kylie, Jane, Sabrina, Erin, Olivia, Stephanie, Melissa, Alison, and Lauren," she blurted out, counting on her fingers to make sure she didn't miss any.

"Wow, that's a lot to pick from and you don't really have that much time," Matt said.

"Yeah, I know Matt, don't stress me out more than I already am!" Christina sighed.

I just laughed, it's what I usually did when her hormones got the best of her. I squeezed her hand now and smiled at her. "Those are all really pretty names, Chris. Do you have any favorites yet?"

She shook her head. "No. But, stupid over here doesn't like any of them." She rolled her eyes at Evan who was sitting on the couch snacking on some chips from Matt's kitchen. He looked up at her with crumbs on his face and she couldn't help but laugh.

"What? Sorry I don't like all of those common names. You know that when she goes to school there's bound to be another kid with the same name. I want my kid to be one of a kind." He smiled all proud.

Christina moaned, "see? Why don't you go ahead and tell them the names you were thinking of Evan?" She asked sarcastically.

"Fine. I will," he stood up, presenting the names to Matt and I. "Well the first one I liked was Clover--"

"Clover?!" I cut in, laughing at him.

"Exactly!" Christina shouted. "Everyone's going to think she's a plant! Or that we're really into St. Patrick's day," she huffed.

Evan rolled his eyes, sighing and continues, "Anyways, I also liked Primrose--"

"From the Hunger Games?" I asked, giggling again.

Christina just started laughing. "Every time a teacher takes attendance and says Primrose, you know someone's going to stand up and say 'I volunteer!'" She said. I couldn't help but crack up at that.

"Matt, help me out here," Evan pleaded.

Matt smiled, shaking his head. "I don't know man, they kind of have a point."

"What are some other names you liked Evan?" I asked, wanting this to continue for my own enjoyment.

"Ember--"

Chris cut in. "A color."

"Ivy--"

"A plant."

"Diamond--"

"A rock."

"Shit! Let's just call her shit! Hey have you met my daughter? Her names shit!" Evan shouted, throwing his arms in the air and sitting back down.

Christina sighed. "Stop being stupid Evan."

"Well everything I say you shoot it down! I might as well not say anything."

"Now you've caught on," Matt chuckled. I shoved him. "But I think Evan has the right idea. Why not name her something different? Just not too different."

Christina looked at Evan and shrugged. "I guess I can look at other names. As long as they aren't too weird."

"There ya go baby. Compromise!" Evan smiled, hugging her.

Christina laughed, hugging him back. "But if I say no--"

"It's a no. I got you," Evan winked, plopping back down on the couch. Christina nodded.

"Okay, well, Nicole and I have some things to take care of, so . . . we'll see you boys later!" Christina smiled, walking towards the door.

Matt looked at me. "What kind of things?"

"I have no idea," I whispered, shaking my head.

"Come on Nicole!" Christina grabbed my arm and led me to the door. "Oh, we need a car," she said to herself.

"Here," Matt chuckled, tossing me the keys to his car. "Just don't take off because now I'm stranded," he smiled.

Evan clasped a hand on Matt's back. "Don't worry man, I still have a car so if they go on a ladies vacation we can just shoot over to Vegas."

Christina rolled her eyes. "Uh huh. And if you do, don't plan on coming back."

"Oh, I love our relationship. I joke around and she threatens to leave me. It's great," Evan smiled and Christina winked.

"We'll be back soon," I said, being toed out the door.

When we were outside, Christina turned to me and explained what we were doing, but all I heard was Evan, party, and planning, so I used my great judgment skills and assumed we were still running errands for Evan's surprise party. Frankly, I was shocked he hasn't found out yet, and by that I mean I'm surprised Christina hasn't spilled the beans.

"Oh, and you have to drive because I can't fit behind the steering wheel," she huffed.

I smiled to her, "don't worry, Chris. You'll be back to your skinny self in no time."

"I hope so!" She exclaimed. "You know, I read somewhere that breast feeding helps you lose the weight faster and your tits get huge! It's a win win situation. Plus, I don't have to buy baby formula."

I laughed, helping her in the car. "You've got this all figured out."

She sighed then, looking distraught. "Not really. I mean, I'm living at home with my mom still, Evan's at his parent's, I don't have a job, he has a part time job, I mean I don't really know what to do Nicole." She slumped her head down.

"Christina, listen to me. It doesn't matter if you don't have every single thing figured out. Most parents who are adults don't have everything figured out. Nothing can really prepare you for this, but you will know what to do when the baby comes. It's an instinct that everyone has. And, I'm sure your mom will help you with anything you need since she's been in the same position before. You have so many people willing to help you Chris. Me, your mom, Evan, Matt, my mom . . . the list goes on." I explained to her, trying to soothe her a little.

I guess it was working because she sat up and smiled at me. "Did I tell you my dad called?"

"No," I gasped. "He hasn't talked to you in months."

"Not since graduation, which he was forced to come to. Well, I guess he has a soft spot for babies because he apologized for everything and wants to be part of his granddaughter's life."

I stared at her with wide eyes. "What? He apologized for everything?"

"Everything." She nodded. "For leaving my mom, for not being there for me, for not being supportive about this whole thing, Everything. It was amazing."

I nodded. "Well I guess he wants to give your baby the life he didn't give you?"

"That's exactly what I think." Then she took a deep breath. "Well . . . "

"What?"

She smiled, all giddy. "Now we have to leave all of this seriousness behind us because we have a party to plan!"
