Things I Hate On Wattpad

I am obsessed with Wattpad. I love many of the wonderful stories that are shared on here. And I truly believe that some of the writers on here deserve to be published.

That being said, there are also quite a few things that bug me about the stories and writers here on wattpad.

This is a list of things that I absolutely dread about this site. Please know that this is all my opinion and I am by no means a professional writer.

Things I hate on Wattpad

 

One Direction Stories: This is the newest trend that has been going on and wow I hate it with a passion. I get that you love the band and all but do we really need thousands of stories about them? In fact I think if anyone from the band read these stories they would be easily offended. There have been stories about random girls meeting one direction and living with them, or a girl kidnapping a member of the band and instead of the band member freaking out they actually end up falling in love.

WHAT? Do you really think that sort of thing would happen? They are a worldwide known band!

My mate rejected me: If there is a plot that is done over and over again it is this one. I think the concept is very good and if done right it could be amazing. But the thing is most people can’t pull it off. One very WELL written book with this plot would be Twisting You by Explode. She does a wonderful job of taking an overused plot and making it her own. It is so different and so interesting.

However most of the other books I have read are frustrating. They are always the same. The popular guy in the pack realizes that the least popular girl in the pack is their mate and of course they end up rejecting her. Then the girl is depressed and runs away from the pack only to be found by another pack that takes her in and trains her. Then the girl returns to her old pack more beautiful than ever and her mate finally realizes that he loves her. There is a battle with rouge wolves and they live happily ever after.

I can tell what is going to happen before it happens and that is never a good thing for an author. PLEASE! Push the envelope and make the story more interesting don’t copy what has already been written before.

In love with brother’s best friend: Now I actually like these stories because I am all for the forbidden romance but be original. I think a WONDERFUL example of this would be Innocently Falling by MandyMuch. She does a wonderful job of creating her own characters and a plot that is so different than all the other brother’s best friend kind of stories.

A high school girl falling for her brother’s jerk of a best friend who treats her like crap is not very real. First of all it’s very hard to fall in love with someone who treats you like that. You fall in love because there is something about the person’s personality that you like. Not just their looks. Falling in love with someone for their looks is called Lust not LOVE.

Also be realistic about the brother sister relationship! Most brothers aren’t going to stand by and watch their best friend’s treat their sisters like crap. Brothers are protective, and caring. They don’t constantly yell at their sister’s and tell them that they are good for nothing. COME ON!

Student/ Teacher Relationship: Okay this is a little tricky because I have read many that I loved, and many that I absolutely hated. I think what makes a good student / teacher relationship story is the mystery surrounding it. If the teacher and the student get together within the first five chapters you have lost me as a reader. Now it’s one thing if they meet before school and didn’t know they were student and teacher.

This is something that is illegal so that sense of threat should be there. Student/ teacher relationship can’t be all happy sappy all the time. If they get through the relationship with no problems then you are doing something wrong. And also why is it that the student, who is usually a girl, always abused or treated badly at home, and seeks comfort with the teacher. AGAIN be creative that plot has been done think of something original.

Not capitalizing the right words: If I open the first chapter and the first word in the sentence is not capitalized I am out of there. Seriously if you can’t bother to hit the shift key when you write than please type up your stories in Word. It does the capitalizing for you! It’s not that HARD!

And I was like, and she was like: NO! No! No! No! I don’t care if you are a twelve year old. When you are writing a story use conversation language such as “she said”, “he replied,” “she asked” etc.

My pink bejeweled iPhone 4 with 50 Apps: Why don’t you just give us the serial number as well? Is the number of apps you have on your phone relevant to the story? No? Then don’t tell me! The fact that it is pink and bejeweled might give us an idea of your character but that’s about all that you need. Don’t give me unnecessary information; it’s a waste of my time!

My besties Samantha, Victoria, Austin, Katie, Sarah, Misty, Cory, Brad, Hillary, Michael, Kim, Monica, Jessica, Brian, Liam, Kevin, Michelle, Ella, Blaire, Cameron, Claire, Anne, Sue,...: First of all do you know the meaning of besties? It’s your closest friends. Two you don’t need to name all your friend, I don’t care how many friends you have unless it is going to affect the story and even then I am not going to remember all your friend’s names. Give me the three of four important names and call it good. The more characters you have in your story the more confusing it’s going to get.

Those are some of the things that bother me right now. I will probably be adding to the list as I think of more. Again sorry if I offended you, but really you should not be doing the things above if you want good readers.
