Chapter 14

Waking up to a new beginning… or NOT?

Sarthak

At first I felt something cold under my arms then, slowly realized that there was something on my chest too. I didn’t know where I was or what was going on around me; I couldn’t even open my eyes on trying. I could hear voices but couldn’t make out the words at first. Then I felt someone stroking my hair and heard a voice I knew too well. I tried hard to open my eyes but couldn’t, my eye-lids felt strained and my head felt heavy.

After trying hard & with much effort I slowly opened my eyes and was surprised to see Nidhi’s face directly above mine, looking at me with eyes full of concern and a smile on her lips. My heart went from crazy to insane, it almost made music that moment...playing quite a fast drum roll.

It was like so many of my dreams; I could feel her breath on my skin sending tingles through my whole body, making me lose my train of thought.  As I looked into her eyes, I ended up asking questions to myself: Should I close the distance between us and feel her beautiful skin on my finger tips, then remove the lock of hair that always fell on her eyes & teases the skin on her cheeks? Would she shiver when I tuck the hair under her ear & move my face closer to hers to get a better look into her beautiful, dark eyes? Will she let me stay like that for a while, feeling our breaths mingle, our hearts beating with the same rhythm, her sweet smell feeling me up till I can see nothing but her flushed cheeks and shivering lips? Will she let me move my lips closer to hers, pressing them lightly before completely capturing them in mine and feel complete for the first time?

I lifted up my hands to remove that lock of hair but something fell from my arm, it was a scarf soaked in water. “What the fuck?” I said out loud noticing for the first time the position I was in.

I was lying on a floor for some reason and she was kneeling beside me. I was surprised to see that her hand was in my hair, but she quickly removed it along with the one resting on my chest. I wasn’t so sure about it but I thought I saw her blush.

When I looked around, I noticed that there were two more people in the room – Gunjan was standing near the door, leaning against the wall, looking at me with a smirk with hands crossed across his chest – acting like the stud he had always been and Kumar was knelt on my other side looking worried.

Nidhi also looked around the room then spoke, “Where are Kaya and others? Weren’t they standing here?”

Gunjan chuckled then told her that Kaya had dragged Sonia out of the room when Sonia started pulling on Nidhi’s hands, shouting at her to leave me alone. And Anuradha Ma’am went with them to prevent the cat fight. I was surprised to hear that Sonia did that, why would she do something like that to Nidhi? But what was more surprising was Nidhi didn’t notice all that and why Nidhi would be by my side with her hand on my bare chest. Then again, why the hell was my chest bare? Who unbuttoned my shirt, my pants and most importantly why on earth was I still lying on the floor?

With all my strength I tried to pull my body up, or to be more specific – I tried to sit upright but before I could even raise my head properly Nidhi’s hand came on my chest stopping my motion.

“What are you doing? You are not supposed to move one inch for at least 15 minutes.” she ordered me with an authority she had never used on me. I had seen her boss around her close friends, but it was the first for me so I kept my mouth shut and did as I was told.

Then, she looked at Kumar and asked him to bring a glass of drinking water with some glucose.

I lied down on the floor wondering, why the hell was everyone acting so weird around me?

“Nidhi, look at the poor guy, he doesn’t remember anything.” Gunjan said with a cocky grin on his face. I really respected this guy most of the time but sometimes he made me wanna punch him in the face to swipe off the smirk and judgmental looks.

“I remember everything.” I lied. I furrowed my brows with anger when Gunjan laughed, shaking his head in disbelief.

“Okay Gunjan sir, that’s enough.” Nidhi’s voice rose in warning before she looked at me, “Don’t trouble your mind too much Sarthak, its natural not to remember things when you faint. You should be resting.”
