Elizabeth closed her locker with a yawn. She had stayed up all night jacked on coffee. She had tried everything to keep awake in school, but the current exercise, climbing stairs to get to Homeroom, was not a very good wake up call either. Note to self: never drink such a caffeinated drink before bed again.
Suddenly, an eerie premonition hit her like a wrecking ball. Her sixth sense screamed at her, JUMP TO THE LEFT! Without hesitation, Elizabeth backed against the opposite wall in a flash; moments before a bucket of dirty soap water hit where she had just been standing. Two surprised squeaks came from the second floor.
"How did she do that?!" a redhead gasped.
"That little-"
Elizabeth gave the two a death glare. "Amy Williams and Sophia Jones; come clean this up RIGHT- NOW."
The two jumped, for they had never spoken to Elizabeth before. Amy deliberated, thinking of escape, until she decided she wasn't ready to die. The incident had attracted lots of unwanted attention, and a few bystanders started casting suspicious looks at the culprits.
"S-sorry," Sophia gushed in a false tone. "We accidentally dropped it and-"
"Then you'll clean it up," Elizabeth stared, giving the two goosebumps.
"Right away!" Amy quivered. Amy and Sophia ran down the stairs, got out some towels from their gym bags, and started soaking up the mess.
Elizabeth left, and heard a frightened whisper behind her.
"That girl isn't human!"
"WHAT?!" Vincent shouted, getting up and knocking over his chair. There was no way. So far, Elizabeth had been doing great in school. Sure, everyone hated her, but there was never bullying before. "How was she attacked?" he demanded.
"Well," his informant blinked, surprised at Vincent's uncharacteristic reaction. "These two girls just threw a bucket of water down on her and-"
Not waiting for him to finish his sentence, Vincent dashed to the door. He didn't even give a thought to all the stares that followed him. Elizabeth was hurt. Was she okay? Was she crying in humiliation?
Grabbing the door, he slammed it to the wall, and saw Elizabeth with her hand out in the doorway, her eyebrows raised in surprise.
"Liz!" Vincent huffed, his eyes scanning her figure. None of her clothes were wet. She was perfectly fine; except for an angry scowl. "What happe-"
"DO- NOT- CALL- ME- LIZ!!!!" Elizabeth pushed him aside and strided into the classroom. The nerve of that hyperactive idiot!
Vincent followed her and spun her around, his face inches from hers. "What happened?"
"Well," she rolled her eyes. "Some girls tried to get me with a bucket of water, but I dodged it. Now let go."
Vincent stared. Elizabeth waited, and then sighed. Disengaging herself from his hands, she turned and went to her seat, cool and collected as ever. Typical. He thought she was a weak little maiden in distress who couldn't solve her own problems.
Vincent was left staring at nothing, an empty expression on his face, not showing his inner embarrassment. So she was alright. The entire time. And she and brushed him aside like a pest. Not to mention the fact that he'd humiliated himself in front of all those people. Sure. No problem. Keep it cool. Keep it-
Vincent walked up to Elizabeth's desk, hands shaking and eye twitching.
"What?" she scowled.
Slamming down his hands on her desk, Vincent lost it.
"I was so $#@&ing worried about you, and you just ignore me like I'm some PMS-ing *^#! % that-"
Elizabeth prodded his forehead with the eraser of her pencil. "You idiot," she smiled. "I'm not going to be taken down so easily. Calm down."
Surprisingly, he did. Looking at her sarcastic smile and having to deal with her saucy attitude made things feel normal again. Leaning forward, Vincent tilted his head to her face, breathing in her soft scent and-
Nobody really knows what would have happened then, since Ms. Palena came in.
"Alright, class! Take a seat and we'll get testing."
Vincent jerked up, marched over to his desk, and sat down, his face impassive, head in the game, and embarrassed head to toe.
