emerald green.
it's everywhere, this hue
monotone
e v e r y w h e r e
e v e r y w h e r e
I look this bright, blinding shade
the sky pales
in comparison. Don't compare
the contrast only stronger
despair
the memory of

white black blue brown
grey shades of grey

Stop.
in out in out in out
breathe
exotic
monotonous
brilliant, bright green
tropical leaves so lushly
dazzling under the tropic sun
overgrown
leaves blades fronds tendrils
reach across the ground
sway to and fro and to--
Stay back!
oh, beautiful, like a calendar cover
yes, beautiful
folly folly foliage
once in a lifetime
I won't die here! I won't!
get back, get back--where?
turn, turn your back
emerald green
even the sea
under the colourless caps of foam
green, bright, brilliant
like showers of emeralds, sparkling spray
licking at land
waves, tides
rising, receding, waxing, waning
cycles
rise and fall and rise and fall--
No, stop!
the time, is there no escape?
turn, turn away
this beach
the sand
hot sand bleached, colour leached
fine piping powder
tough soles feet like leather
dry walk, run
left right left right left--
footprints.
Can it be?
Find him! Find the one trapped
here with you
not alone, no
the footprints long and narrow
like your feet, your
foot
fits
perfectly.
it can't be, no no no nono
run run run
around the sandy racetrack
lined by emerald green
salty sea lap-lapping
foliage rustle-creeping
heffalumps multiplying
cycles, circles
round and round and round
forwards is backwards is forwards
emerald blur green green green
a break, give me a break!
the monotony.
scarlet dissolving
on your hands and knees
stinging salt
diluted
gone.
alone.
emerald green--glass
the bottle
that carried my hopes out
to sea
paper thin fragile, charcoal smears
corked tight
swallowed by the
emerald
sea.
