‘AWAKENED WITH A KISS’ - Chapter 4

“Wait. If you can’t remember a thing, how do you know your name is William?” I asked him out of curiosity. If he had forgotten everything when he knocked his head on the concrete last night, how did he know his own name?

“That’s because I told him myself.” Clay strolled casually into the room and sat on top of the kitchen bench, eyeing the both of us. His hair dripping with water, which obviously meant that he had just stepped out of the shower.

“And how do you know his name, he couldn’t have told you.” I pointed out.

“It was written somewhere on his clothing,” Clay explained vaguely then turned to face William. “Why were you wearing all that old stuff in the first place?”

“How is he supposed to know if he can’t remember anything,” I answered for him. “Duh.” I rolled my eyes at his stupidity. I’m pretty sure we were just talking about the fact he had lost his memory. Clay can be so dumb sometimes, it actually made me feel better about myself.

“Whatever.” Clay muttered, turning bright red in embarrassment, causing me to laugh in amusement. Looks like I won this one, bring on the victory cake.

“The big question is, what are we supposed to do now?” Another voice piped in. We all faced in the direction of the voice and found Lauren hovering at the kitchen door.

So, she finally decided to come back, from wherever she came from. I narrowed my eyes at her to let her know that I wasn’t happy about her disappearing act amongst other things. She chuckled nervously in return.

“No. That’s not the big question here. Where have you been Missy?” Clay glowered at Lauren angrily. It was nice to know I wasn’t the only one who was angry at her for bailing on us, it was also quite nice to have Clay’s anger pointed at someone else for a change.

“Can we talk about this later?” Lauren gave him her best puppy dog eyes. He was putty in her hands, always willing to do anything for his darling sister. Clay’s anger wavered and he nodded. Lauren flashed him a thankful smile.

“Now, onto the real problem.” Lauren announced, addressing all of us. “Any suggestions?”

“Nope.” I answered instantly, not bothering to think. I grabbed a piece of my hair and began twirling it with my finger, a habit I have out of boredom.

“Did you even try to think of one?” No, obviously not. She raised her eyebrows at me, waiting for my response.

“Pssht, yeah.” I lied.

“Bull.” Lauren could always tell when I was lying, she knew me better than she knew the back of her own hand.

“Do I have to?” I whined sulkily, sticking my bottom lip out.

“You kind of do. You got us into this mess, the least you could do is help us get out,” Clay had a point. “By thinking of a solution to this problem.” Lauren nodded in agreement.

“Ew, do I have to think?” I grimaced. “What is this, school?”

“Charlotte.” Lauren only used my full name when she was serious, like now.

“Laurenna.” I shot back.

“That’s not even my name.” Lucky her, she had a cool enough name that she didn’t have to make amendments to it, unlike me who is stuck with Charlotte, how original.

“It is now.” I poked my tongue out at her, very mature of me.

“What are you, five?” She rolled her eyes at my childishness.
