Chapter Seven (Gavin's POV)

Kasper was scared.

I could tell by the way that he risked grabbing onto my arm as we moved through the usual crowd of New Yorkers that clogged the streets on our way to the Calvin Klein store. Luka trailed behind us, talking to someone on his cell phone about our dinner reservations. I glanced at Kasper as he gazed up at the buildings with a child-like awe that made him seem all the more fragile and innocent.

He looked even smaller in my v-neck t-shirt and jeans, his shoes almost sliding off his feet. He should be wearing something far more attractive, I noted, glancing up ahead at the street as we neared the store. I sent Luka to the register to inform them who had made their presence at their shop while Kasper and I looked around.

He paused to look at one of the tags, then flinched and looked up at me quickly. I could tell he wanted to protest at the prices, but I smiled warmly and held his hand in mine.

"Kasper, honestly, prices mean nothing to me. If you see something you like, take it." I urged. Kasper still looked uncomfortable with the idea as he glanced around at all the clothes before drifting to one of the stands to study the shirts. I smiled in relief. I could see he was reluctant, but at least he was trying.

"You know," Luka drawled, coming to stand beside me, folding his arms over his chest, "You can't buy his affections. Don't get me wrong, he needs clothes, but a simple trip to the GAP would've worked." I scowled at him, putting a hand on my hip before looking over at Kasper as he ran his fingers down a silk scarf.

"Kasper deserves more than that. I want him to have everything he could never have before... And I want to find out who he called earlier." I muttered, remembering the way Kasper was secretative about the call. Luka blinked and looked at me.

"Oh? Do you really want to know?" He asked. I knew that tone of voice and glared at him.

"Luka, don't beat around the bush." I commanded. Luka sighed, his eyes following Kasper before he looked at me with one of those wicked smirks of his.

"Originally, he was searching up the name Kyler Mercy, but Kyler's name didn't show up in any of the databases in the United States of America, making him illegally in this country. As for the second search, it was a name Remi Black. A police officer in a small Virginia mountain town called Trinity." He explained calmly. I frowned and looked over at Kasper as he glanced up at the same time. He immediately looked away, pink tinting his cheeks and making me melt.

He was so beautiful. It was physically painful to be around someone you couldn't touch because they were scared of you. Scared of their mate. I blinked in realization and looked at Luka, who was balancing his cell phone on his finger tip.

"Luka, can you trace the number?" I demanded. Luka almost dropped the phone, but held his finger out over the cell phone so it stopped short of falling onto the floor, floating in the air before I glared atg him. He let it drop, wincing as the battery top popped off and skidded across the floor.

"Yea, I suppose that's possible." He sighed, then stooped over to grab his phone. I turned to Kasper as he approached me again, keeping silent about all the things he had been admiring. I opened my mouth to speak when I heard a woman's voice boom.

"Gavin! Mon cher!" I looked up with a charming smile as the owner of this particular store emerged from one of the back rooms. She was as petite woman with black hair bundled up in a bun of tight curls, her eyes as gray as the sky before a thunder storm. She wore a ruffled blue blouse with billowy sleeves with matching black pants that hung over her tall, lace up boots.

"Ma chere," I greeted brightly, letting her hug me tightly before stepping back, "It's a pleasure to see you again, Bella." Bella smiled warmly, taking my hand and showing off her black and blue designed nails.
