Ava Monroe sat in the dark corner of the house smoking her cigarette.  It was a cold Sunday evening.  One could hear the sound of the cold wind as it hit the glass on the large bay windows.     Ava began to stare all through the house.  One thing that caught her eye immediately was the hallway walls and how the paint on them seems to be coming off.  In this moment Ava felt nauseous and her only way to cope was to drink some of the old brandy she had stored for special occasions.    After all this had been home for the last 20 years. There was a time the Monroe residence was known for it’s extravagant parties and many guests would surround the house.  After all Ava grew up in the city of Atlanta Georgia.  Her parents were wealthy and after they passed she was left with a substantial amount of money.  Looking at it now even her inheritance could not cure her pain.  You see nothing in the world meant more to her than Jackson Lavery.  From the moment their eyes met at one of her parties she was totally taken by his charm.  Their courtship did not take long and they were married in front of God and their friends at the Sacred Hope Church right near her home.      Just then while reminiscing about her past.  Ava threw down her glass in anger.   She began sobbing and then stopped herself.  Ava began to scold herself.

“ Get a hold of yourself now Ava!” she lashed out.

She tried to calm herself, but it was to no avail.

“ How could this be happening to me?”

Outside you could hear the wind get stronger.  It was unusual weather for this time of year.  Sadly winter was still being felt this time in March and it did not seem from the way it sounded it was going to let up at anytime.   Inside Ava’s demeanor only showed her discontent with her own self.  Their Ava noticed the entire circle under her eyes.  Her hands appeared wrinkly and the age spots began to show.  Ava also noticed how her hair, which was once a dark brown color, began showing signs of gray.   She gasped silently while trying not to cry.  Her hands began to shake.   Then Ava began to scream really loudly.  It was so loud that she began to break some old pictures that were hung on the sidewall of her living room.

“Damn!” she screamed.   Then began pouring her a drink.  In the last few weeks Ava’s world had completely been turned upside down.

“ How could he do this to me?” she cried out loud.

Suddenly she heard a knock on the door.    Ava decided to ignore it and decided to continue in her self-pity.

“ Go away” she screamed.

“ Ava, please let me in!” called a man’s voice.

“ Go away!”

Ava wanted so desperately to run to the door. She could envision herself running to him just like so many times before.

“ Ava” he shouted.

“ Please leave now Jackson!” she pleaded.

“ Ava, I am not leaving!”

He continued knocking on the door.  Ava heard the pounding on the door.

After about twenty minutes the knocking became faint and she did not hear him.

She began to smirk slowly.   Then walked over to poor herself another drink.

To her surprise, Jackson was not gone.  He was by the door.  Jackson who always looked so handsome and debonair was looking rather rugged and his clothes looked disheveled.

“ Ava, I have to talk to you!”

Meanwhile, Ava continued to smirk.  Then decided to open the door.
