Adelynn’s POV

Thirty minutes later, the bus stopped a few blocks away from Heather’s house. I walked the surprisingly long three blocks over to Heather’s, even though I remembered it being much shorter the last time I was here, and arrived at her mansion of a house. It was massive, I have to say. There were these brown gates surrounding the area and Heather’s house was probably a block long with a circular driveway and a beautiful fountain in the middle of it.

I’ve only been inside the house once when Heather and I had to complete a short project together and let me tell you, that house is amazing on the outside but once you step inside, your mind will be blown. When you enter, you are greeted by shiny marble floor that looks absolutely spotless. It was so spotless that I even felt guilty for walking on the extremely clean floor. If you take a few more steps, your eyes will no doubt snap to this beautiful glass chandelier hanging from the ceiling that lights up the whole entire room. Not only that, there are also two staircases on either side of the room that lead up to the second floor. I was beyond impressed and this was just the foyer! I was speechless when Heather gave me a tour around her house since I’ve always lived in a medium-sized home and have never been in a mansion before!

A light roar of thunder interrupted my little daydream. I walked up to the gates and to my left was a beige intercom. You have to speak in the intercom to talk to whoever picked it up and then they will decide if they would let you in or not.

I pressed the button and spoke into the intercom. “Hello?”

“Yes? Who is this?” The sound of an old yet posh man spoke.

“This is Adelynn, I have Heather’s assignment for class.”

“Ms. Montel isn’t here right now.” He said in his French accent.

I made a face at this. What did he mean Heather wasn’t here? “Uhh, she knew I was coming over.”

“Well, she did not inform me of this information. She went out. You have to come back later.”

“Can I wait inside? I think that it’s going to rain soon.” I said, looking up at the growing grey clouds. Right when I said that, I started to feel a light drizzle. “Actually, it’s raining right now.” I said to what I guess was the butler.

“Sorry,” He apologized. “but orders are, I cannot let anyone in the house unless I was informed and Ms. Montel did not inform me that someone was coming over. I guess you have to come back later if it’s raining.”

“Please?” I tried.

“Sorry.” Was the last thing I heard before I heard silence altogether.

I let out a sigh and stood under the tree since that was the only form of shelter I could find in this big place. Why did Heather go out when she knew I was coming over?

Maybe she went to get medicine since she may be sick. Yeah, that was probably it. She’ll be back soon. I hope.

Half an hour later, it was safe to say that it was raining cats and dogs outside. It was pouring and thank god there was no thunder or else I would’ve been in danger of standing under a tree. There were light rumbling from the sky a good fifteen minutes ago but it had stopped and was replaced by the heavy pouring. Even though I had the shelter of the big tree, I was soaking wet.

I was shivering since I was soaked and the air seemed to be picking up a breeze. I sneezed for the hundredth time and was about to leave when I saw the brown gate move. It opened and I was going to run inside since the butler finally decided to let me in but then I saw a car. Heather’s car to be exact.
