[Chapter Thirty one]

The murky water was against us from the start. We couldn't keep hold of one another's hands so we had to let go and I found myself pushing harder to keep by Malfoy's side. He had his wand out lighting out way through the classroom to the corridor, for a short space it felt like we had been under water for ages. My air was running out far to quickly and my limbs were growing tired. I was so frightened that I had thought about just giving up to many times.

Pull yourself together woman!

We had just gone through the frame of the door which I'm pretty sure had been blasted off the hinges once the water had burst through when Malfoy grabbed me. He pushed me upwards without hesitation. The amazing relief and feeling that hit me was very short lived. All the way down the dark dreary corridor was water which was still coming in from somewhere. Where were the professors? Surely they had been alerted...

Malfoy came to the surface with a spluttering cough. “Oh shit” he hissed.

It was just as bad out here, I'm sure the paintings under the water had all drowned and for a moment I felt grief. The water was so high I could put my palm flat on the curved ceiling.

I began to panic, Malfoy saw this and rudely splashed water at my face. We would have to swim the length of the corridor which was so long I was sure to drown. It's so cliché but my life passed before my eye's, all the things I wanted to say I probably wouldn't get the chance, all the things I planned to do became no existent.

“Hey, listen to me! Hey!” I suddenly relaxed when his hands where gripping my face, forcing me to look at him instead of the long narrow corridor. Keeping afloat and panicking at the same time was hard work!

I looked at him and gave him my full attention.

“Where's the brave Gryffindor?” he demanded, I'm sure this was a way of keeping me awake. I felt his right arm dip and he placed it at the bottom of my lower back, now he was keeping both of us afloat. I had no energy to talk.

“You can do this, I take back what I said Wayward okay? Your not weak and pathetic but you've got to prove it to me once again, okay?”

I blinked at him and tried to nod but even that hurt.

He seemed on the very edge of panicking himself, I could feel the tremor of his cool breath and the shake of his body.

“I'll-I'll look after you okay?” he whispered, his pearly white teeth chattering.

Why would he do that? Why couldn't he just leave me to die? After all I was a disgusting Gryffindor that wasn't worth his time. But I found myself believing in him, something I thought was impossible. I gathered the last part of energy in me and began to kick.
