This poem is for all the single mothers out there, who are brave and do everything to provide for their children, I want you to know that there is a Father who IS.  And HE stands beside you always.

THE FATHER WHO WAS NOT

Once there was a father…

Who was not.

He had children…

But he forgot.

There were things more important,

Like pleasure,

Like women,

Like everything else.

Once there was a father…

Who was not.

He had children,

That he abandoned…

Thinking,

That now he will have…

Fun…

Enjoy life.

Once there was a mother…

Worn and beaten,

Battered and bruised,

Who was.

She was a mother,

She did not forget.

She was a mother,

And that was all that mattered.

Once there were the children,

Lovely,

Full of life,

Full of faith,

Despite the father who was not.

Once there was a father,

Who thought,

When they grow up,

I’ll redeem time lost.

Once they grow up,

I’ll turn their hearts from her,

The mother who was,

And make them think she was not.

But time did pass,

Fast like a raging river.

The children grew,

And came to know…

The One True Father…

In heaven,

Who provided always.

He was the Father that WAS.

ALWAYS.

He was the Father that SAW…

The tears…

The cries…

The needs…

And did not abandon.

Then came the time,

When the father that was not,

To stand before his children,

Who did not know him,

But who remembered,

All the times he made her grovel,

The mother who was.

Yes they remembered.

There came then a time

When the father who was not,

Stood before the throne

Of the Father who WAS.

And the Father asked that so-called-father:

Where are the children that I gave you?

They are with their mother, he says.

And why are you not with them?

Because they did not want me, says the man.

The Father nods.

Ah, says the Father, But did you want them?

Yes, says the man.

The Father’s eyes pierce the man.

No, says the man, actually I didn’t.

Anger flares in the Father’s eyes.

I know what you wanted,

Says the Father of all Creation,

You wanted women,

You wanted pleasure,

You wanted to receive and never give.

Now I’ve seen the tears she cried.

Now I’ve seen the tears of the children…

For they have always reached heaven.

Receive now what you deserve…

Receive  now my justice.

For you have been the father who was not.
