[...Chapter Thirteen "Kill My Boyfriend"...]
Cyan's Point Of View...
My eyes stretched open, the first thing I saw was Corey's face. His eyes were red and puffy, like he had been crying. He forced a smile when he stared into my cyan eyes. Something didn't look right. Something felt wrong.
"What . . . what happened?" I asked as I sat up, looking around the room. Tables that were once flipped over were now either split in half or completely destroyed. It looked like a war had swept by while I was asleep.
And then I saw him. First it was just his dress shoes, but then my eyes went further and saw his face. My stomach wrenched. Sir Roman laid dead, his back against a desk, his face drained of color and zombie looking. Then I looked more and saw guards piled up in a corner, all dead. Their faces looked dried and twisted, horrifying and unbelievably disgusting.
"After you passed out, I killed them all." I couldn't believe that those words, those cold simple words, came out of Corey's mouth.
"You killed your father?" I asked, sounding more shocked than concerned.
"He . . . was going to kill you. And I couldn't let him do that. He gave me no choice."
I wanted to ask if he was okay, but judging by the wet cheeks from tears, I decided not to. Instead I reached out for him and hugged him, tightening my arms around his neck in a loving and reassuring embrace. He needed me now. And he saved me. My Corey saved me. He saved all of us. He did what the creationists had been wanting to do for years. And it seemed that the only way Sir Roman could have gone down was by his own son. It was the only possible way it could have happened.
"That's strange," I said.
"What?" he said, pulling away.
A hopeful smile etched my face. "I feel . . . better. I don't feel so weak anymore." I clenched my fists and stared down at my pale chest. The flesh was still healing from the burns, and the gravely injured marks were almost gone. I was healing super fast again. Normally it would have taken me a few days to heal from that kind of damage, but now the process was speeding. Soon I would be healing like any other pub; fast and unnoticeable.
"It was a virus," Corey said suddenly.
My eyebrows pulled together. "It was?"
He nodded. "My father told me while you were down. He told me everything. But I destroyed it, and then he called the guards to kill me, but I killed them instead."
My eyes widened. "What is the virus? How does it work? Is it completely gone?"
He nodded again. "They come in vials. If you crush the vial, the virus will travel through the air and enter your body and slowly kill you unless you inject yourself with the antidote. That is you were weak. Because your body was repaired what the virus was destroying. It was a slow process but you would have eventually died."
"You gave me the antidote?" I asked.
"Yes." He smiled and held up an injection. "This one is for Naomi. The rest are destroyed as well."
"We can save her," I said happily, taking the small vial from his hands.
"We should get out of here, though. This place gives me the creeps," he said.
