Authors Note: So this is a character development i wrote for school. I was really bored and that's why I published it. I got a 4- on it which is pretty fair because the highest I could've got was a 4++. Hope you like it.
Dear Maria,
Characteristics
* Blonde surfer boy hair
* Grey-blue eyes
* Kind of nerdy but still stylish
* Black rimmed glasses
*Beautifully crooked teeth
This all described him, my dream boy. I know we’re only fourteen but what else can a girl dream of in her spare time. If you’re like me and listen to all the talk, then you believe Taylor Lautner is gay. Until further notice, I’ve got to stick to the boys at my school. Still, of course, he never notices me.
He’s the most popular guy in the school and I’m the odd-one, that’s how he sees me. Why would he see me any other way, I look nothing like the other girls. I have straight dark-brown hair, brown eyes, and long legs. I know some guys find that hot, but not when you add in my purple braces. Everything about me is out of order with mismatched socks, mismatched studs, fine-chain silver necklaces with a single pendants, black skinny jeans, black combat boots or variety of converses with mismatched laces. Most say I’m the prettiest one in the class, but I don’t see it. In a modeling school like ours, you never could.
Before, you start to reread, the answer is yes. I did just say I go to a modeling school. It’s my first year, so I don’t know but, I’m still glad to be here. I’m not some of the rich kids’, who’s parent’s paid for them to come here, when all the talent they have is walking in a pair of heels. Even though sometimes, they don’t seem to get the hang of that either.
I guess it’s because I’m the first scholarship student ever to get accepted. Many have tried but Vivianna just said they didn’t have it, whatever “it” is. Vivianna is our headmistress, and she seems to like me a lot. She said I was a jack-in-the-box. Something about all surprising people. Whatever, back to my story.
Ever since I reached the school, all the way in New York, I’ve felt like my life would never stop giving me rude awakenings. My first day of school was all magical, from the train ride from California, all the way to walking into the stone building, my body dragging along, as though I had shackles on. Even id that sounds painful, it truly was magical. You just have to see the place to know the feeling. I got into the school, that was all I needed. Still, it wasn’t what I wanted.
I remember the first song I ever got hooked on. It was an alternative song playing on Vh1. ‘Dear Maria, Count Me In’ by All Time Low. As soon as I heard the lyrics and played the song on a loop, I knew I was in love with music. I also remember why I got signed up for this school. Latoya, Tori and I were just hanging out at the food court. They had those people asking for children to sign up for careers in media. As always, Tori went up to talk to the woman advertising. We watched her sign a paper and when she came back, we pounced on her to know what she had done.
It had turned out she had signed us all up to audition for a modeling contract. It was just a test drive, to see if we had potential. For fun, we all went along with it, and agreed to try out. I didn’t take it as seriously as they thought I should’ve, so they practiced without me. When time came for us all to hit the runway, they showed up looking uptight and professional. I came in with my favorite party outfit, faux glasses and black combat boots. I didn’t look tired, unlike them and I didn’t look uncomfortable either.
After a while I learned that the contest was filmed and that we had actually been in an international competition. I had made it to the top two when it was called a tie. I got to choose my prize between…
* An all-access pass to a show on Broadway
* A seven seas cruise for three
*A chance to get an all paid scholarship to an elite modeling school in New York City
My parents’ chose the third one because the others seemed limited. I got into the school of Tori’s dreams and I had to leave before ninth grade began. Now it’s already October and I would take back everything to be home. My friends and my family are in Los Angeles, California whiles I’m in the school of the evil. Nobody is nice, all they try to do is stab each other in the back to get where they think is there place. Everyone wants the monthly spotlight in the fashion show. Especially since this is Halloween month, the kids go even crazier to get the chance.
At least, we don’t have to have room mates. It supposed to feel like a hotel in that way. Getting us ready for when we have to run on and off the cat walk. Well, this is going to be my life now. Tori got me in this place and I know that even if I miss them, everyone wouldn’t want me to fold out. As the movie says, it is “My life in ruins,‘ well so far. Talk to you soon.
Love your cousin,
Bex Carter
