 ****************************************************************************************************************

The bottle-poorer -my bet is his name is Chris- squinted his eyes and the pain in my chest increases. Well, he's definitely a Bolt. Danny tried to crawl away, but Maybe-Chris grabbed him by the collar dragged him back.

"Where do ya think you're going, boy? Off to call the Chasers?" He punched Danny in the face and I screamed. Danny grunted, and tried to struggle out of the giant man's grasp. I hadin't realized how big he is until he was right up in front of me. Or, more importantly, while I was whithering in pain at his feet.

"Off to call the hounds on me, boy?" He pressed his nose right up against Danny's, eyes blazing. He raised his fist once again and I hid my face in Peter's arm. Just as he was about to give Danny another smack, a deep, booming voice interrupted us.

"What the bloody hell is goin' on 'round here?! Chris! Put the poor boy down, ya 'ol wind bag! Can' ya see he's just a wee little thing? Couldin't hurt a fly, he could. Put 'em down." Chris hesitated.

"Bu' Stan! They be a Link! Be workin' with them blasted Chasers, they be!"

"Based on what, Chris. You're instincts?" He snorted. "Jesus Christ, man, this is hardly the style of a Chaser! Let 'em go, mate, and we'll chat in my office." Stan turned around and trudged away, into a door marked Employees Only.

"Come on, then!" He some how managed to scoop all four of us into his arms and carry us into Stan's Office, our stuff toppling to the floor as he did. I saw peter wince as his bag hit the wall with a bang! Stan's office is nice, with light wooden panneling on the walls and white ceiling, a soft green rug covers the floor. There was a dark wooden desk, stacked with piles and piles of papers, along with an green, old fashind lamp. Two large windows illuminated the space and I had to cover my eyes to block out the light.

Chris dumped us on the rug. We all scrambled to our feet. Stan gestured to the chairs in frowned of his desk and we all took a seat.

"So Chris, how'd ya get a hold 'o these four lumps?" Stan sat in his expensive leather chair, elbows resting on his desk.

"These four snuck into me bar. Thought they were so smart, sneaking around, but I sensed 'em right when they walked in! I knew they be trouble the minute they shlumped in here! There working with the Chasers, they be!" Stan didn't look very impressed, and I took this as a good sign. He shook his head.

"And what proof do ye have to indicate they be one of 'em, hum? They call 'em on us?"

"No..."

"They attack me home? Me self?"

"No.."

"Then why you be hittin' a child, Chris?" Chris looked at a loss for words. He struggled to find the answers.

"They were hiddin' out! Highly questionable, Stan, highly questionable. And I was jus' defending' our pub! Protecting' it from the likes o' these!" He said, eyeing Danny, who was clutching his cheek with his hand. I was holding his had and I rubbed his knuckles soothingly. I spoke up for the first time.

"Are you kidding me!? We didn't do any thing to you! We were waiting for the pub to be empty so we could talk to Stan!"

"I know trouble when I see it, and you be of a dangerous sort-"

"Oh, yes, Chris. Congratulations, you successfully beat up a four-year old. I truly hope you feel more of a man now that you've eliminated the danger." I sneered at him. I was too mad to be scared any more. I wrapped my arm around Danny protectively. I had to tilted my head up all the way in order to glare up at him.

"We never did anything to you. You hit Danny and then make it out to be you 'saving the day'. You're nothing but a coward who hides behind his fists! If you had any courage at all you would have confronted us, not attacked us! You-"
