It's Not What You Think.

Lila was giggling, tipping the rest of her drink back into her mouth. Finishing it off in one swallow, she put the cup down and continued dancing in the mesh of bodies. Her hips meeting Liam’s she smiled at the familiar face and kept near him.

Niall sat at the bar, talking to Harry who had his arm slung around Briley who looked strained. Niall brushed it off though and continued talking to his friends, wondering where his girlfriend had gone off to. He started scanning the room for her, she wasn't with Presley who sat at the end of the bar smoking and staring into space; Zayn was talking to Louis about something or other. Moving his gaze to the dance floor he easily found Liam's plaid shirt among the rest of the bodies, he was hip to hip agaist a petie blonde girl. Niall was glad that he'd found someone finally, maybe Lila had set it up? He watched Liam's face lower and the girl's rise; about to kiss.

And then Niall saw it. That was Lila with Liam.

He didn't think, he didn't yell then and there, he didn't act like Harry and yank Lila away. He just left, his long neck bottle in hand.

Bracing his back against the rough brick wall, Niall felt his chest collapse. Ragged breaths escaped his mouth, the bottle slipped from his hand and fell to the ground, beer and shards of glass scattering. He felt so helpless, it'd been four months of literal hell for all of them and it all felt so strange. Except for her, she was real, she felt familiar. She felt like home.

And now she was doing God knows what with his best friend.

Lila leaned up into the warmth of Liam, she felt so giggly and warm. His lips parted, milimeters from hers and she closed the gap, falling into the taste of beer mixing with her own fruity drink. She fell into a pair of arms that held her for the rest of the night.

Only to wake up and realize that she ruined the only good thing to happen to her.

Three and a half hours of waiting in some of the heaviest silence, a man in a lab coat came out to face them, asking if they were there for a young man of Liam Payne.

Harry had fallen into a fitful sleep on Louis' shoulder about half an hour before so Zayn stood up to meet the other man, Niall's head still buried in his hands.

Pulling Zayn aside, he talked over the details with him. Zayn had to fill in questions as to where Liam's family was. Originally from Wolverhampton, Liam had graduated school there and moved to the southside of London in hopes of Uni but instead meeting Niall who was from Ireland with the same hopes. So really, Liam just left and didn't look back.

But he was alright, Liam was alright.

Zayn let the news sink in a bit before it hit him. Liam was alive, he was going to be alright.

He'd lost his left kidney, and he was still asleep from the surgery, but they could see him as soon as he was coherent.

The doctor nodded his head and Zayn turned on his heel to face his friends. Niall had sat up eagerly, Louis trying to sit up and still balance Harry's head on his shoulder. The girls all perched on the edge of their seats.

Zayn choked on the words as they stuggled to come out of his mouth, his eyes were shining with tears and in that one moment he realized how nervous and scared he'd been all afternoon. "He's alright." Zayn coughed and he watched their faces light up, Niall looking overly relieved. "We can see him when he wakes up."

Briley's arms were suddenly around his neck like a vice, the happy news giving her strenghth to cling to him. Presley looked at Lila and they grinned before hugging each other. Niall rubbed his hands down his face with relief and Louis leaned Harry against the wall again, nudging him awake.

"Lou what the hell--"

"Liam's going to be okay."

Harry's bloodshot eyes widened. "Yeah?"

Louis nodded vigoroulsy, "Yeah Haz."

A/N: Okay so this was supposed to be up last night but I lost power. I should have a longer one up tonight with more one on one action with everyone. :D
