Chapter 7
A Month Later
“Stop.” I gasped out, breathing heavily. My body was on fire, just like any other time Lucian touched me. He growled above me, his face buried in my neck while his arms held his weight off me. As I waited for him to get off of me I couldn’t help but admire the muscles of his chest and arms. Unconsciously, I slide my hands down his torso, moaning at the rock hard feel of it.
“If you really want me to stop then you’d better keep your hands to yourself.” He growled out, gripping my wrists with one hand and pinning them over my head. His gold eyes were glowing with the insatiable hunger that pulsed through him.
For a month now I had been denying Luc the satisfaction of creating the mating bond. I had wanted us to get to know each other again. As a child, I had known him better than I had known anyone, but we had both changed in the last eight years and I want to reconnect emotionally before going further physically.
The last month has been hard on both of use, the physical tension taking a huge toll, but more so on Lucian. His leopard has been just beneath the surface, waiting for his chance. Sometimes it’s a little disconcerting being around him with how intense he would stare at me. Yesterday, I invited him over to watch a movie with me and as I went to go get my blanket from upstairs so that we could cuddle, his eyes had followed my every move, unblinkingly. His muscles had been tightly coiled as if he would spring at any moment.
I knew time was running out but I couldn’t rid myself of my insecurities. I was scared that giving in to him would make me vulnerable to the same pain that I had been experiencing for the past 8 years. I wish I was able to let go of any doubts I had. I wish I could let go of all the worry and have what my parents and his parents have, but something always seems to stop me.
The ringing of a phone nearby snatched me out of my thoughts. Lucian, who had lain down beside me a few minutes ago, sighed as he pulled his phone out of his back pocket.
“Yeah?”
“Son? I think you should get over here. Bring Aurora.” His dad, Mike, said excitement and worry seeping into his words.

“ What did you tell her of our family lineage?” Mike asked after they had all sat down in his office. Papers were scattered everywhere, some looked like family trees, while other were official paper court records and journal entries. The state of the papers varied as well as the languages they were written in.
“Not much.” Luc replied
“He told me that the Mayan Jaguar God of the Underworld reincarnates into your linage and that because of this his reincarnations are more aggressive than regular leopards.” I explained, rolling my eyes at Lucian’s reply. “What I don’t understand is why a Jaguar God would choose a Were-Leopard linage to reincarnate into.”
“Then I guess I can start there.” Mike said, focusing on me, “Long ago, there was a war between all supernatural races. There had been a huge period of peace which allowed for the overpopulation of each of us. Because of this, fights were appearing across the land over needed space, or power struggles that arose. Everyone gathered allies hoping to lose as few people as possible but the Were-Jaguars were not very social and kept to themselves. They chose not to form a clear army and families were known to fight for themselves.
This caused them to be slowly picked off and they became extinct or so we thought until Nero. The war had caused so much destruction and lose that the low numbers allowed for the war to die off. Everyone was grieving for lost loved ones and a treaty was made to keep the peace between us. The only reason the Were-Leopards survived is because we went against our instincts and paired with the Were-Lions and Were-Tigers.
