Well, it was fianally over.

I slumped down on the couch, relief washing through me. I had just given my last exam, chemistry, and I was back home for some deserved rest. The exams were officially over and I couldn’t be happier. It had gone better than I had expected; much better actually and I was glad I could put that out of my mind and concentrate on…

Keegan.

I almost laughed out loud. If he knew just how much I thought about him he might decide to file a restraining order against me.

“The exam went well I guess?” I looked up as dad approached. He had a cup of coffee in his one and reached out with the other to pet my head.

“Wow, even your hair’s wet, why didn’t you wear a hat?” dad questioned, taking a seat beside me on the sofa.

I rolled my eyes, “I forgot,” I then raised an eyebrow at his cup, “coffee? It’s almost three in the afternoon,”

Dad smiled sheepishly at me, “its cold okay? And I didn’t have my cup. Woke up around twelve,”

“What about work?”

“I’m playing hooky,”

I smirked and then it faded, “speaking about avoiding work, where’s Lee?”

Dad shrugged, “Went out with some friends, maybe,”

We sat in a moment of silence and the party at Mark’s place tomorrow invaded my thoughts. That and Elena had mentioned it a million times today. All she thought about this week was the party; I wondered how her exams went.

“Umm… dad?”

Dad gave me his undivided attention; he seemed to be in a good mood. That could be useful. Lee not being here made it easier, he would be spewing lies to make sure I couldn’t go. He was worse than dad sometimes.

“Yes sweetie?”

“There’s this party tomorrow evening,” my dad’s smile disappeared and my talking speed increased, “and I was hoping you would let me go,”

“Party?” he asked like he was hoping he had heard wrong. I nodded.

“Where?”

Not an outright no. That was good progress.

“At a… um… friend’s place,” I drawled, hating myself for stuttering.

“Huh. Tomorrow?”

I nodded eagerly.

Dad seemed to think about it, “It’s short notice, what’s the occasion?”

“Just to celebrate that the exams are over,”

“Shouldn’t you wait till you all get your results for a party or would that bring in too small of a crowd?”

I smiled at that but then I gave my pleading face, “please? The exams are over so I’m free. Dad…”

“Promise to be responsible?”

I nodded, he was caving, “I always am. Besides, Elena will be there,”

“Brilliant,” you didn’t have to strain your ear to hear the sarcasm in his words.

“So I can go?”

Dad nodded and I leaped into his arms for a big hug. Dad jerked the coffee wealding hand away from the two of us.

“Whoa, Hale. The coffee will spill on you.”

I shrugged, still latched onto him, “doesn’t matter, its cold anyway.”

Dad chuckled as he hugged me back.

“What about your boyfriend?” dad asked before he pulled back.

Right. The other guy I needed to convince to go to the party.

“What about him?” I asked.

“Everything between you two okay? I haven’t seen you go out much…”

“Really dad?” I almost burst out laughing, “we’re gonna discuss my love life now? And you actually seem genuinely concerned,”

Dad pouted at me, “what’s that supposed to mean?”

“I thought you didn’t like Keegan?”

“If he makes you happy than hell, I can tolerate it,”

That got dad another hug. He was so amazing sometimes, I was so lucky to have him as my dad.
