Lindsey’s Point of View

“Please Matt, you have to help me! I told my ex-husband I had to show him something. He doesn’t deserve to know about Katie yet! Maybe you could pose as my boyfriend?” I prodded gently, making puppy eyes at him.

“Lindsey, look at the mess you’ve gotten yourself into. I’ll help you this once, since you seem desperate, but just once you hear me?”

“THANK YOU SO MUCH!” I squealed and wrapped my arms around my closest guy friend.

Sometimes I wonder what I've ever done to deserve a guy like him. He's sweet, kind and lovable, with a lopsided grin that drew attention toward him. If it weren't for Jeff, I would have chosen Matt years ago.

But how could I forget those blue eyes, or that soft golden hair, or the way his beard scratched my cheek when he kissed me. Oh his eyes, that color, it was still the most beautiful color I had ever seen in my life.

And his loving words, so tender and endearing that I teared up each time I recalled them. He had loved me so many years ago, but now he's moved on with his life. I was nothing more than a mere memory to him.

“Yo, Lindsey! Yoohoo, anyone home?”

“What? Oh yeah, sure.” I mumbled.

"So um, how do you want to do the whole pretend boyfriend girlfriend thing? Just the holding hands and the arms around the shoulder thing, or the whole hugs, and kisses thing?” He questioned

"If it's believable I'll take it," I shrugged, though in my heart, I knew what I was doing was wrong.

Playing with Jeff's heart just to show him I'd moved on before he did. Making him believe that I didn't care about his new wife, whereas I wished I was in her place. She was the one who got to hold him at night, or smile when he came home. She got to love him, and patch his wounded heart. She was everything I could never be.

“You sure this is what you want Lindsey?”

"I asked you didn't I?"

“Alright then, I’ll see you tomorrow.” He waved goodbye and left the café, bumping his head on the top of the door frame and cursing.

I laughed, watching as he stumbled out towards his car, his retreating form growing smaller and smaller until all I saw was the bright green of his shirt. A blue bird fluttered gently from tree to tree, and flowers filled the trees with their sweet scent. A gentle breeze caused the tall oaks to sway back and forth, dancing with the wind.

I glanced up towards the soft light radiating from the window, only to see a magazine of Jeff thrown carelessly in the trash. My eyes welled with tears at the sight of him, smiling down at the woman in his arms, with warmth radiating from the sapphire depths of his irises. The tears dripped, one by one onto the checkered cafe table, and rolled off the smooth surface onto my canvas shoes.

The track of my tears washed away the grime and dirt on the wooden floor, and created damp spots on my collared shirt. I heard murmurs around me, but they were all silent compared to the pounding of my heart, and the numb feeling that overtook my body. I felt my blood pulse through my body with grief, and I placed my cheek against the window, not caring anymore that I was breaking down in a public place.

A seep of wind blew through a crack in the window, and I felt a sudden chill as cold as my heart.

The sun no longer felt warm against my cheek, and the cheery bright blues and yellows of the cafe appeared dull. Coldness surrounded me, and I felt the chill straight into my heart. I had always believed it was Jeff with the jaded heart, but right now I felt colder than I did on a lonely winter night.

I thought leaving Jeff would give me a chance at happiness, but all I've done is give myself an eternity of pain. Blue would forever haunt me from this day on.

* Hehe, bet you guys expected Jeff would meet Katie right? Well I told you I had some surprises up my sleeve! But as you can tell, seeing Jeff again brought some memories back.

Btw, the side picture is Matt hehe. --------------->
